Orange account cancellation problems

Im sure all phone companies do this! 3 did it to me, the only defense you have is to cancel the DD.
You may be able to reclaim the money though the bank, the DD guarentee states that if there are any mistakes, the money will be refunded within 10 working days. It just might be hard proving you definatly cancelled it.
There seems to be no point ringing to cancel phone contracts, they set you up with something else, then deny you ever called them!
Good luck!If you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all0 -

no,you just activate the SIM and the contract is cancelled
cancelling a DD on an active contract is foolish0 -
complicated? its not complicated
the contract is canceled by the act of registering the sim
The OP chose to cancel by this method
they get told on the phone and then they get a letter with the SIM
what more? the Orange CEO comes round and does back rub while dialing the number to register the SIM?
Rubbish. The OP called them to cancel the contract. That should be it. Turning three circles standing on his left leg with his right finger on his nose on the night of a full moon shouldn't enter into it.
The policy you describe is clearly designed to mislead customers in exactly the way it appears to have misled the OP. If anyone could be bothered to take Orange to court over that carp the crooks most likely wouldn't stand a chance.Je suis Charlie.0 -
Maybe the OP did get told to activate the sim, but was it explained to them properly what would happen if they didn't??
If I got told to activate the sim, but wasn't told what would happen if I didn't, I wouldn't activate it either and would probably lob it in the bin.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -

the OP called to cancel and took the option to go PAYG over a straight 30 day cancellation
option,choice,free will
perhaps I have some higher cognitive function or perhaps its really not that complicated
or do we just take companies to court because we didnt listen or read what was provided?0 -

We take companies to court because they deliberately set out to mislead us. Just because someone fell for the scam doesn't make it any less of a scam.
The OP called them to cancel the contract and as far as he/she was concerned that was what he/she did. He/she will be wiser in future and hopefully will heed my advice about cancelling things in writing, because he now knows damn well that they will weasel out of it if they can.
And in future he will, without a doubt, cancel that direct debit too.Je suis Charlie.0 -
Hi all,
Just to clarify a few things, Custardy is correct in saying when a transfer from PAYM to PAYG is requested at the end of any agreement a SIM is sent and the user advised it must be registered to close the PAYM account. An accompanying letter is also sent with the SIM.
As the account holder has requested a PAYG SIM we are unable to disconnect the PAYM account until the SIM is registered as we assume they wish to keep their number active. If the account is closed we are unable to transfer the number to PAYG and it is lost.
If the account holder changes their mind and no longer wishes to keep their number and fully close the account they need to call back to request disconnection. Moving to PAYG is a transfer not a disconnection request.
Hope this clears a few things up,
