You're a very lucky young man:
1. You know what you want to do with your life (even my CEO who's in his 50's is 'only doing this till I work out what I really want to do')
2. You are controlling your debt and have a plan to deal with it.
3. You know yourself really well - this is invaluable.
No advice to give apart from good luck! (OK, 1 tiny little bit - financially you should pay off highest % 1st, but I agree with your priorities - reduce overall number of debts then you can see progress and whole thing is easier to manage.)
Good luck again :TA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Cheers guys, appreciate the advice
WIth regards to HMRC / FD, because I only got my P45 through the other day from Sainsbury's, I never handed it in, so I possess my P45 at the minute, with regards to what you say with me being lucky, I think that's why I get frustrated with myself because I'm lucky, I shouldn't feel so bad about things sometimes.
New year is definitely a new start, I feel proud that since I've left HMRC I've managed to do quite a lot, so there is nothing wrong with me, I'm just trying to make jobs fit me, when in truth I know that I would rather put Fruit + Veg out at Morrisons rather than answer phones at HMRC even if it means dropping £3,500 to do so. I believe that says a lot about me as a person!
With regard to my jobs, I have done quite a lot, last night I went through all my bank charges online, worked out that I'm due £361.50 from FD, that's not including the interest, I've just claimed back the charges themselves, should they force me to instigate court proceedings then I will add the interest on.
HSBC (My 2nd account, unused for some time) have charged me £106 (again, just through charges) and I will repeat the process with them, that's quite a lot of money when I think about it!
I have 29 items on ebay, that is only a small proportion of clothes that I dont use, I have to go through my wardrobe and have a look at other stuff that I don't wear anymore and just get rid. Anything that doesn't sell I will donate to the air ambulance charity that come around.
Additionally, today, I will surf around MSE for a bit longer, reading through the threads (I spend more time here than anywhere else now) and then I have to go and get my hair cut (disastrous length at the minute) I've a cheque (£1.70!) to bank and post an item from amazon sales.
Later I've got to clean out my car, the only expense will be on the vac at the garage, my interior is filthyadditionally I have to activate my A+L account today, I got all the stuff through, I just have to activate it, then use a bit of my overdraft to start the ball rolling with the matched betting.
I think that's allowed since I will be putting plenty more money back into the account? Let me know if this is frowned upon in MSE terms!
With regards to the new year, JS won't have me back, I've messed them around, as a result I am blocked from taking a job with any store, an email has gone out and I'm not allowed to be employed by any of the stores! Unbelivable, but hey ho, their loss, I have to move on.0 -
A decent day, spent a lot though
Couldn't get in anywhere for love nor money to get my haircut, £13.50 it cost me, I felt like crying..... I have a funeral to go to tomorrow, and I couldn't go as it was, it was shocking. So hey ho.
£10 on Gift cards for parents' - £20
£10 Petrol
Disaster day, spending overboard, happily though, activated my A+L account so I can use that for my matched betting, hopefully the profits should start rolling from that.0 -
I'd honestly say you would be better off waiting for your ebay items to end and using the money from that to start matched betting....
I know a lot of people make a fair amount of money in the scheme but fact is you shouldnt, when in debt, speculate to accumulate.
Once you've dipped into an overdraft you keep doing so, I know you've got the best intentions but you did ask if it was frowned upon, and I think in all honesty, it would be.............
Sorry dont mean to offend, thats just my opinionWealth is not measured by currency0 -
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, oh well, will have to wait a bit longer for the overdrafts to clear and for me to get some proper money into my account!0

Hi All,
Uncle's funeral today, sad emotional day, still managed to retain my teetotal stateNot a drop of alcohol passed my lips, oh im getting good!
Ebay completed sales - £36.94 - Marvellous! Phase 1 completed of all the old footy stuff, thats the total sales figure excluding postage so should make a bit more to clear the HSBC overdraft.
Overall a good day, spoke to my cousin, hes a nights manager at Adel ASDA, knows store manager at the ASDA that Im going for, says he will have a word, and give me a lot of good pointers that help me to understand my career aims and things. Nights could be a brilliant starting point for me, a big chance to make my mark and earn some very good money in the meantime.
Finally feel that things are starting to move in the right direction,0 -
Hi all,
A blow for me tonight (was close to weakening) massive night out, but I cant go, I have no cash, dont get paid from I.R. until 2nd Jan, disaster?!?!
Ahhh well, its not meant to be, after speaking with my cousin (works for ASDA overnights) he said he will get me in at the local store, as he knows store manager, I'm pleased, I am confident I would have got in anyway, but its better that I know people inside as it all adds weight to my claims!
Got some really good advice yesterday, its useful to know what the norm is in other companies, basically my initial plan is to stay on nights for the forseeable future, its a good career move plus I think it will help me in my condition, I'm terrible first thing in the morning, so hopefully it should help.
I am going to a counsellor soon, I have an appointment once they ring me back, so that will be positive, I dont know what I intend to get out of it, just to speak to a professional, will help me along I feel. However the tablets are working now, not as many down moments as there have been.
I'm disappointed that I am not earning at the minute, obviously I've taken the break that I have because of the I.R. and the pressure that I was under there with absence (found out about my problem and effectively wanted rid) I've been advised by CAFCgirl to write a letter to head of HR - HMRC regarding the way I was treated, would appreciate others thoughts on this. I mean obviously it would have to be well written, so as not to sound like "sour grapes" but even if it helped others who are in the same predicament from being treated the way that I have been treated I would be happy.
I feel relieved that I have snowballed (date needs adjusting now) and relieved that I have realised that retail is for me, and ASDA is for me too. I couldn't have achieved that without the support of people on here, who have helped with SOA, Matched Betting, Depression and a lot of other things!
People may notice that my debts keep increasingI got the actual figures for my argos card and the next, these are annoying ongoing debts. They are my next target after my HSBC account has been cleared and closed.
I have an A+L account now for matched betting, it has no overdraft (tried to withdraw money today from it) and is Visa Electron, which I think is a brilliant thing, because it prevents me from doing the easy trick, have £50 here, £100 there etc.
I'm owed plenty of charges, HSBC owe me £106 and FD owe me £361, that is without interest, I am just claiming my charges initially because of the relatively low amounts involved.
I can add the 8% compound interest on should they want to take the matter to court, but I will cross that bridge when I come to it. So with that in mind, depends on when the offer is made / paid as to whether it will come off the relevant overdrafts (FD's is likely to be paid and just reduce the overdraft down).
Ebay sales phase 2 begins tonight, a Computer keyboard, various formal shirts and other rubbish to go on. Should generate a bit more cash for the debt effort, I'm hoping that my ebay money will get that overdraft cleared, all cheques + paypal money goes into that account.
I can start matched betting then because the next lot of ebay money / amazon payments money will go to my A+L account that is being set up for matched betting / overpayments on debts.
I think that I will reduce the FD overdraft too if they dont close my account for being so brash as to claim for my money. Depends on them really, I will get my wage at ASDA paid into my A+L account then transfer the relevant amount by standing order over to the FD account for DD's etc.
That is my plan anyway, as I've said, it will depend on them closing my account at FD, then any money I have left over in my A+L account after budgeting will go on the debt with the highest APR (HFC) or the small debts (Next / Argos / Mint £44).
Obviously, I would hope to get some overtime at ASDA too, that would boost my wage and help me overpay on a debt or two.
I cannot get over how focused I am for ASDA (if / when i get the job!) and the night shift operation, apparently they are crying out for night shift managers, with my experience I certainly need to prove my worth initially and then see where I can go from there.0 -
A question to pick your brain with;
What would you folks do regarding the Black Horse payment? It's the highest rate of interest but sadly its also easily the highest sum of money owed.
If I was to pay it off tomorrow, £5100 would be the sum to pay, obviously you get rebated for interest if you pay it off sooner. The issue is that whilst that would be great, there is no way that I can afford to that tomorrow.
In the spirit of paying off the highest APR debts first, that would by logic be 2nd after the HFC one. However its a massive sum of money and will take a long long time to pay off. So would it be best to clear all the little debts (Argos / Next / Mint (1)) before tackling the Black Horse debt?
I've tried to get a loan (any loan rate would be better than the one I'm on) but it's going to be a no go with the job situation sadly.
