  • Thanks!

Changed over my paypal account to the HSBC one, so any monies raised from paypal (ebay sales) go straight to paying off the overdraft that has been dormant for far too long now!!

Just gotta wait for verification but that's within the next 3-5 days, still have funding for the account via other sources.

Ditto with the amazon stuff, just a case of all the income going through that to make sure that it chips away at that account, then once that is sorted I can close that account down. However I'll make sure that I issue a claim back for charges on that account, there are some from a while ago!!!!
  • So that is that, after a hard day, I have managed to achieve quite a lot really, sorted out a debt plan to with CCCS that helped me focus on what I actually owe, then rung around the lenders and obtained updated figures and interest rates so that I could work out the debt free date and snowballing..

In fairness the snowballing figure may need tweaking slightly, its all weighted on how much money I can chuck at my debts, in fairness I think that I have got it just about right at the minute, but Im hoping that I can throw more money at them once the HSBC Overdraft (£99) and the small Mint Card (£44) are paid off, not only will they happily be crossed off my sig, they will have gone forever and prevent me from going back into the overdraft!

Then with the £5 that I dont pay off Mint I can throw at the next debt, its nice to be in control, have priorities and feel like I am actually working towards something in relation to the debts. Before It was rudderless and just basically guesswork as to what I paid off, well in fairness I didnt pay anything off, I was staggered at how much interest I pay!!!

Ebay tomorrow >>>> All the incomings go onto the overdraft HSBC / Mint Card then once they are done it will continue to go into the HSBC account until £50 is in there, I will then pay that off HFC and continue again until the next £50 is there, that way keeping it seperate from my DD's and Incomings / Outgoings account.
  • Morning, Ebay day today, everything that I own pretty much is to go on Ebay, still undecided about what I am to do about work, I dont have a job nailed on at ASDA but I hope to get on there in the new year.

I dont expect to return to tax office, probably will take the time off sick as I have things in the new year to go to (assesment centres) so taking another day there will be frowned upon more so than taking 2-3 weeks now. Plus I feel that I need the time to get fully better and relaxed before I start again at ASDA (should I get on, hopefully I will).

But with regards to ebay now, any advice, similarly with budgeting, would a spending diary be the best thing to do for the initial month to understand where the money goes before deciding to budget?
  • Morning! Good work fella. keep it up :)

Re: the tax office job - just a thought, can you just work through it and think of the cash? Its often easier to get a job when you're working.

  • Yeah, I mean that is something that I can consider, with my stress (depression whatever) It has ups and downs, I've managed 3 day weeks since I started there, thursday I was a sham and couldn't cope with it all. Im concerned that Im not giving myself enough time / space to get better, If I was to go to ASDA it has to work out, im back in my retail background doing what I want to do. I need to get myself prepared and ready for that, I mean I can go sick (its not something I want to do) but it would make more sense than taking 2 days off a week (for example i have assesment centres in the new year and a funeral to go to next week) they all count as seperate absences.

Whereas If I was to take the time off then I would get paid, could sort myself out, focus on the future and actually feel refreshed to take on the new challenge that awaits and begin the new year as I intend to.

I think you may have a problem in finding further employment at somewhere else like ASDA when you are signed off sick ( what if someone at the IR sees you working when you are supposed to be off sick). I think you need to decide if it is fair on the tax office to go off sick when you have no real intention of going back there to work. Also if you did start work at ASDA and IR found out they would be within their right to ask for their sickness pay back. I don't know, I guess what I am trying to say that you come over as someone who is depressed, anxious about wanting to pay off their debts and holding out for the holy grail that will cure them. I know, I've been there and I wish I had taken time out of work - left, handed in my notice and given myself 2-3 months off. Going sick does more harm than good - to your self esteem, to the good faith of your employer and to the prospect of references to future emplyers who do not like to take people on with poor sickness records. I do wish you well and only you can decide what to do work wise. Have you thought about temping? Even retail like to have people on an 'as and when' basis and the fact that people won't be demanding too much time from you may suit your needs at the moment.

  • Yeah, what I mean is that I intend to go sick from now until the new year then go back in the new year once I have had some proper time off. I agree with the sentiment regarding the fact that I have no intention of going back, its a tough one. I just feel that I need some time to relax, with the upcoming Christmas holidays there is the opportunity to do that.

The problem is that I took Friday off because of the death of my uncle, If I was to go back and then take another day off for the funeral it would be counted as two absences.

That is my only feeling, I have just had a rough ride recently with work and I keep going to new jobs and things without taking proper time, Im concerned it may get to a stage where I will get so bad that I wont be able to do anything.
  • Obviously wary of pushing you too hard, but themaccas has a good point. It's a bit like the question of when is the best time to have children - there never really is a 'best time', you just get on with it when it happens.

From reading your earlier posts, it looks like the problem is that you want to do retail soooo much, that when you were taken out of your ideal arena, your 'sub-concious' was screaming at you to get back on track to your goal.

Now you know what your goal is i.e. kick-!!! retail, I would imagine nothing will stand in your way now at the IR - it's just a temporary job in your mind. As themaccas says - protect your 'reputation'

  • Its very true, I mean I could probably cope with it now that I know that I am getting out of there in the new year, with a bit of luck. Its just the absence, I may as well take the week off because of the linked absence thing that they operate, they view a week better than me taking two days off then Thursday off next week.

Its the system sadly, and whilst I am not working it as such, from a personal point of view, its necessary because of the periods of absence rather than the length.

Ebay mountain has begun, I've raided my football stuff and have around 20 odd items to go on, unsure whether it is a good time to put on the ebay. I hav some ideas, for example, Im going to offer a courier service if the buyer lives in a local radius (charge obviously) to garuantee delivery, or alternatively push the special delivery to ensure that the item gets there on time.

This is only the beginning, I still have my wardrobe to go through for clothes and my other room to see what treasures are in there!

Stress is often a reaction to not having a goal. Get focussed on your goals in life, small ones and big ones. If you can't think of any goals (well clearing debts is one!) then just make something up. It's better to go through life driven rather than rudderless. Set yourself achievable targets and celebrate to yourself when you achieve them.

When you've got something to aim for you will think of solutions. Your problems will just become obstacles you just haven't overcome yet. Anybody who has ever done anything has had setbacks and knockdowns. Read some auto/biographies, you'll be surprised how low some famous people have been - but with something to aim for you can pick yourself up and just get on with life.

There are times when you'll be down - that's only natural. Just be aware that its a temporary feeling, dance around the room or something - just shake it off and get on with living!

    Sorry to ramble!

    That wasn't rambling!
Really good post , and reminded me of something I have frequently forgotten. Thanks
