Its very true, I mean I could probably cope with it now that I know that I am getting out of there in the new year, with a bit of luck. Its just the absence, I may as well take the week off because of the linked absence thing that they operate, they view a week better than me taking two days off then Thursday off next week.

I have to say I disagree, if you go back on Monday it will look far better, many employers are also concerned about the number of days rather than amount of absences. In any case taking a day off for a funeral will more than likely be given to you as a family day or similar, the civil service are very good about that sort of thing so it will probably not go down as sickness.
    Debtfree JUNE 2008 - Thank you MSE:T
  • Good advice maccas, good advice, I will see how I feel, whilst I have some good days recently, I need to ensure that I am right and fit for ASDA should it come off as that is what I want to do. That has to work out!

Meanwhile, I've put 28 items on ebay!! Go me!

That should start to chip away at the HSBC overdraft and then any surplus can provide my matched betting money to start with, then its time to start smashing debts starting with the small CC and then the laptop!
  • Morning guys, I have a couple of watchers for my 29! items on ebay, and a bidder of a 1p too!

Hopefully should raise a decent amount of cash, I mean £40 ish would do, it would at least start to get the overdraft down and once it's cleared I will close the account to prevent me from using it again like I have before.

Plus then I can cross it off my sig!

Some of you may remember that I posted a thread on here about teetotalism, tonight is the footy club's Christmas party, my first big challenge, naturally It s one that I will overcome, nothing worse than waking up, feeling like death, hair smelling of smoke and generally wanting to die!!
  • Teetotalism strikes again! No drinks at all at the footy Xmas do!

Lovely, Coca Cola all nght, well not lovely because Im wide awake now, but it will be nice to wake up without a hangover tomorrow!!

:) How is everyone? Debt free days ahead?

LtD - I'm just off to bed but had a quick skim of your thread. So pleased to hear you so positive, and VERY impressed with how productive you've been.
Keep up the good work hun, you've done a great job at turning this around.
As for time off - i too worked for one of the 'modern' employers that use the new scheme of assesing absences, and as you say it penalised frequent absences far heavier than long absences. When you are READY, go back - but don't rush, make sure you are ready and can cope if more stress comes your way.
    Best wishes,

  • Thanks Kaz!

I feel that I need to be ready for ASDA as that is my vocation and something that has to work out, because its essentially what I want to do!!!

I am pleased with the lightbulb moment, its helped me focus on what I need to pay back, and when, and just how much interest Im actually paying.

Once I can start crossing debts off my sig I'll be happy!
  • Major update today, I handed my notice in!

Went in this morning, had a meeting with Manager and team leader, basically wa s in a room for 45 mins, I was in floods of tears and was getting asked questions about medication, when would I be fit, what happened with previous jobs, did I leave of my own accord. What did I declare on my application form, medication, timings of departures etc etc etc.

Was told my job was on the line, what would I do without a job, I could be sacked for medical reasons, they would go over my medical records with a fine toothcomb etc.

Then, because my uncle had died, they asked which Crematorium to ensure that I wasnt lying about that. Said they would ring to find out.

Basically I got out before I could be given the sack for medical reasons, couldn't have that. I was forced into it effectively, had to go see the company doctor tomorrow, and they could have got rid of me at any stage.
  • So, unemployed!

Not a huge disaster, can use this time effectively to get myself better and focus on ASDA (hopefully) in the new year. Plus put some more of my stuff on ebay, I have 28 things on there so far, unbelivable how much rubbish I actually have!

I hope everyone else is fine!

Has anyone wrote to their debtors to request token payments before? Its something that was recommended to me because of my health issues until I get sorted.

I must admit, I was pretty shocked at the tactics employed by HMRC in trying to get me out, "you said FD wasnt for you, maybe this isnt for you". "I would seriously think about leaving" etc etc.
  • SO, as I say, unemployed!!!

I spoke to CAFC girl who is from here via MSN when it all happened yesterday, basically forced me into it, I was threatened with a company doctor, and the sacking of myself due to medical reasons, they were trying to catch me out with my application form and what I had said on it, basically saying that I had been to the doctors, they said I was fit to work, so why couldnt I do it.

Then because I had been off Thursday and Friday for the 2 weeks, I was asked if I had another job that prevented me from working, then asked me what crematorium my uncle was at (died on Thursday of last week) because she was going to check to make sure that's where I would be.

Then they started saying that they will look at my medical records from the doctor, HR would make a decision whether they can continue my employment or not, so I could have had a sacking on my record, I opted to hand in my notice with immediate effect.

However, when I did that they tried to persuade me to stay, saying that If I proved myself I would be able to stay, I said well, why the company doctor and all that? They countered and said that it was procedure etc, and that they would give me all the support that I needed. B*llocks, they were trying to force me out by threatening me with all the various actions.

I was already on a formal warning for being off Thursday and Friday, I had taken the previous Thu + Fri off with similar problems but they allowed me to take it as annual leave (holiday) but they were trying to count that as absence too.

It's worth pointing out that they were trying to hold against me my previous employment both with Sainsbury's and with FD (to do with my stress) I was asked why I left JS and did I leave of my own accord, why did I leave management etc. I said is there any point to all these questions, I was told quite aggressively that we needed to get to the bottom of this once and for all. I needed to get my "!!!! into gear" before I lost my job.

Again, its worthy pointing out that I was in tears at this point, was told not to get upset, but the harsh questioning continued, my team leader looked quite embarassed by it all as the unit manager continued with her line of questioning.

I told her I was going to the docs, she said ask her what to do, tell her that you are one more absence away from losing your job, I said so if she says go off sick, what should I do?

Basically, the support was zero, and they were trying to get me out on what I declared on my application form, was I on medication at the time of application etc.
  • Who can say what they were thinking - maybe they need to cover their asses so you can't do them for stress.

Anyways, what's done is done; as you say, you've got to get in shape for ASDA. Might even be a good idea to get a temp job in retail somewhere so that ASDA don't ask HMRC for a reference...?
