I agree the system needs to change and there will be more sanctions available to advisors and they will be able to activate them earlier. The could include stopping benefits for those who dont attend training sessions etc.

Whereas under the previous funding most training could not start until 6 months of JSA claiming, the new funding will allow training to start from day 1 of the claim.

If they have to be there 4 hours a day, they get sanctioned if they don't.

    Simple!

How about no longer being masochistic?
    How about remembering your divinity?
How about unabashedly bawling your eyes out?
How about not equating death with stopping?

I am telling ya, 4 hours a day!

Yeah and?? I don't do that all day every day! I can't spend 4 hours a day when the jobs I am qualified in are only on so many websites. An hour is fine and I still get plenty done

You are like the 6 second abs guy in Something about Mary. really like the 4 hours idea dont you! I agree that supervised jobseeking is a good idea but 4 hours a day, supervised will drain resources we dont have.

Some people would benefit from being supervised, for example those who are happy to scrounge off benefits, or those who are struggling to know where to look for jobs or not sure what they want to do.

For many people like myself we are already doing everything we can to try an get a job. I wouldn't be happy for someone to supervise me. I'm not a child and I know where to look. Even the job centre have said I don't need any extra support as they can tell I'm doing everything I can.

  • The back to work thing makes me laugh! I had a great job, working for the council, worked my way up the ladder, got a lot done for the council, then they made me and a full team of my colleagues redundant. Now they want to get us back in work! Perhaps they shouldn't have made me redundant then?

It really annoys me when people also class all unemployed people in the same boat. Some people may have been unemployed for years and not been willing to work, but people like me were put out of work by no fault of their own and now can't get a job because we are "over qualified" for less well paid jobs and jobs we are qualified for no longer exist.

Exactly. To tar everyone with the same brush could have a negative effect on those who dont need supervision. Those that do need it sort of get it aleady with the intervention teams.

I agree with this. It's pretty obvious when I sign on that people have been there for a very long time as they all seem to know each other. I hate going as I hate feeling like people look at me and assume I'm just a scrounger. It all changes though once the staff realise I actually used to work for the job centre, then they suddenly realise we're not all the same.

6 months. Which is the longest time I've ever been out of work since leaving school. Prior to this the longest was 3 weeks

Just make all unemployed people do 4 hours a day supervised job seeking.

Every day (except weekends), they have to turn up, on time, job search (with resources like PCs and helpers), apply for jobs, 4 hours minumum.

    D70

and how long would it last when it doesnt work, they could apply for x amount of jobs but they dont even get an interview so the money used for the supervision is wasted. Some people are capable at looking for jobs because they want to find a job but the ones who should be supervised are the minority who dont job search(well they might do but make up bogus searches/ applications) and no 1 questions it.
