What's needed, in all areas but some more than others, is more decent jobs. That's got to be the priority, surely?
That's certainly my problem, a lack of jobs in the areas I'm qualified in. There was a new pub near me which opened the back end of last year and the only staff it was looking for were those who were unemployed to get them back into work, rather than those looking to change jobs.
I personally thought that was a great idea and think more companies should do this.Saved: £1566.53/ £20000 -
Call me a cynic but there seems precious little information on how this would work.
Plus to me it misses the point that the main way to get people to work is to have a growing economy where businesses have an incentive to hire. At the moment, thanks in part to the Coalition and BoE, that is simply not the case.
Cynic and also don't forget to blame Labour for their part in the current situation. The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

4 hours job seeking? That would be ridiculous! I used to spend all day looking and refreshing pages until it was just dragging me down. Now I spend about an hour in the late afternoon looking, it means I'm happier and can use my free time more constructively.

But does this tackle those who don't want to work? yes if all unemployed want to work this sounds great, but there is a whole chav culture now where it isn't tha skills problem but an attitude problem.
But out of that 2.5 million that will be a minor % and efforts are probably better aimed at getting those that want to work back into workThe Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

Just make all unemployed people do 4 hours a day supervised job seeking.
Every day (except weekends), they have to turn up, on time, job search (with resources like PCs and helpers), apply for jobs, 4 hours minumum.

Whatever money is being poured into this scheme can be used for proper facilities and supervision.
Honestly, I know people won't like this, but make it mandatory to spend 4 hours a day being supervised job-seeking.
Watch the claiments drop, watch the genuinly needy stay.
Has popular support too.

I agree the system needs to change and there will be more sanctions available to advisors and they will be able to activate them earlier. The could include stopping benefits for those who dont attend training sessions etc.
Whereas under the previous funding most training could not start until 6 months of JSA claiming, the new funding will allow training to start from day 1 of the claim.0
