As for me, I did our special romantic Valentine's meal last night and everything went perfectly and we had an amazing time. After a very late night and rather too much champagne, wine and port, OH woke me up this morning with a cup of tea and a wrapped up present. He said it was an early V day present. I opened it and it was a woolly hat...

(sorry, see my signature!) ...and he said "You'll be needing this because we are going to Prague!" Turns out what I thought was going to be a very low key couple of days away somewhere in the UK, is actually a surprise break to Prague. We are going tomorrow morning, flying business class, he's even already arranged a car service picking us up from the airport (usually I deal with all those technical details), and we are staying in a really fancy suite in what looks like a gorgeous hotel, and he said he has booked Valentine's day dinner at the best restaurant in Prague.

Oh Daisie... These things are sent to try us! You never know it might be to throw you off scent!

I am actually so glad I know I am getting the Pandora charm... The boxes they come in are basically ring boxes and I would have died if I saw that... Meh, like I say, I know I will be waiting a long time... Xxx

I am SO trying not to get my hopes up because all the same reasons why he wouldn't propose this early still stand, but....it seems so special and he has never surprised me like this before! I really need to be very careful not to get all excited and just to enjoy our romantic couple of days for what they are, without any expectations. I am about 95% sure that he wouldn't do it now...when he told me on NYE that he was definitely going to do it this year he said the only reason he hadn't done it yet was because he couldn't afford it, and that still stands as he won't get a bonus until the end of Feb. So he CAN'T do it. He won't. Nuh uh.

Still..we spent a good hour last night sitting in front of the fire drinking champagne, talking about weddings and what our ideal wedding would be like and everything. Then today, we popped to Cambridge because I needed some warm clothing (-16 in Prague at the moment!) and we looked in the window of one of my favourite jewellery shops and we were looking at engagement rings and discussing the merits of various ones. Then as we walked away he said "Oh well, maybe someone will buy you one of those one day". Men are so infuriating!

I make an appointment at the registry office myself and tell him point blank it's now or never; put up or shut up.

    Hi Rosevibe,

Why not go mad and do it?! You don't have to make a big thing out of it, this is just for you both, then when you have some pennies together have a big wedding? it would give you some security at least :)

    Big hugs! Xxx

Can I just say I really like the fact that your computer only lets you right a few sentences at a time - it keeps us in suspense!!!! :rotfl:

After our daughter was born 3 years ago I was sat in the registrars office allowing his name to be the one she took because he'd said 'we'll all have the same name soon anyway'

Her 3rd birthday has been and gone, we've had several very emotional conversations about this and how crap I feel at not even having the same name as my daughter (she can recite his name, his parents and sister in full, my name she struggles with because it's different) and no, not a single proposal - he keeps saying 'of COURSE I want to marry you' and has been telling me he wants to marry me since before she was even conceived - for 6 years he's been telling me we will be married ONE DAY.

Really feel for you rosevibe... this is one of the main reasons I want to get married because although we dont have kids at the moment, we do hope to in the future and I couldnt think of anything worse than my own child having a different name from me. If I had a baby and the father refused to get married, I'd even just go and change my name by deedpoll!!!!
I have a few friends in this situation and it doesnt bother them at all but I'm such a traditionalist that i couldnt stand it!!!

I seriously think in this situation you should just tell him you're getting married and that is that!!!! Or at least sit him down and make him have a serious conversation about why he hasnt done it yet!
Hope it all works out for you soon!!! ;)

Ohh I'm trying so hard not to get hopes up but I literally can't stop thinking about it. Also...we are going to see OH's daughter next weekend (he goes every other weekend but I don't always go with him. She lives in a different city, which is where OH is originally from) and he has suggested a meal out with his mum, his sister, his brother, his daughter and her boyfriend. We have NEVER done this before, a formal meal out with basically his entire family there, and I can't help thinking...is it because he's planning a proposal before then and he wants to tell them??
