Something I can imagine a particularly panicky person (thinking of a friend of mine - she jumps to conclusions about letters and phone calls all the time and is very panicky and somewhat ott!) doing quite easily.
That I could understand, I have similar friends. But it has never taken 4 days to get to the truth of the matter with them.
Perhaps I am becoming too suspicious (given other threads on here) of anyone with *** mum for a username. Apologies if that is so.My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

Honestly not a wind up at all. I don't see my friend regularly so it was only over a phone call and she never read me the contents of the letter. I only got an update from her when she met with the social work lady on the Friday. All is well now and it's given her and her other half the push they needed to start on the adoption.
Thanks for your help RacyRed and the helpful links xxx0
