Paid Internet Security SoftwareMost people have a router nowadays, and if they don't windows firewall has been standard for 7 years or so. You are more likely to get hacked by downloading malware.
but windows firewall is not reliable on its own although MS has seemed to improved this in the last 2 years.
when your computer is your business you need reliable protection0 -
Free Anti-Virus softwarePARTON ME - i have been in the internet business for 10+ years so i know my way round computers. AVG/ AVAST are Anti-Virus ONLY while IS is full Internet security software On top of kaspersky IS i do have malwarebyte installed.
wouldn't touch AVG with a bargepole. Avast latest has some useful features (sandbox) and some less useful (webrep). Every pc I've seen with Kaspersky has run slow and speeded up when replaced with something decent & free.
decent free av + mbam + windows firewall + router NAT+firewall is plenty good enough....I'm with closed on this one - why bloat your pc with stuff you don't need and have had to pay for the displeasure ??
......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

My computer is part of my work too. But when i work from home i see no reason to add anything else apart from what i get for free. I can even get all the paid for stuff free through work but i see no reason for it.
As long as your not prone to opening things you shouldnt and going on sites you shouldnt and do a regular scan then the average user should be fine with the right free AV/firewall and probably a router now everyone is wireless.
