FREE anti-virus V paid Internet security

Free Anti-Virus softwarethat is pointless to answer as you cant place a price on the security of your computer system.
So if the only available antivirus or security suite cost £10,000, you'd buy it because "you can't place a price on security"?! That's just daft.
In my experience, having a variety of free applications seems to provide much a much better level of security than a single premium multi-feature anti-malware suite.
I certainly haven't had any malware on my PC in the last decade or so, as far as I'm aware.0 -
Paid Internet Security SoftwareGenerally, but not exclusively, paid security is better than free. Best thing to do is check out the various tests on Antivirus-comparing sites, find one of the better ones, download to try it and make sure you like it, then shop around to find it as cheaply as possible. Everyone's a winner!Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
Free Anti-Virus softwareAlthough even the latest Norton is getting good overall reviews, I still wouldn't pay to put it on any of my machines, when avira and avast do just as good or better a job.....and both of those are much nicer anyway IMHO.
"full" IS suites are also not for me, but I can see how less technically-minded people are almost paniced into the "if I pay for it it must be better" mode of thinking
......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

PARTON ME - i have been in the internet business for 10+ years so i know my way round computers. AVG/ AVAST are Anti-Virus ONLY while IS is full Internet security software On top of kaspersky IS i do have malwarebyte installed.0 -
What's full internet security, AV + firewall + some additional bloat that most people don't need or don't use. It's in the AV companies interest to push this stuff onto peoples PC's to make them stand out above the competition, but the only important bit is the resident antivirus detection, and you can get better AV detection in (some) free products.
Last av comparatives test
avast free detected 98.4%
kaspersky 97%
eset 97.5
so in that test avast free is better.!!

so you would be quite happy to stop a virus/trojan but quite happy for someone to hack into your computer because you don't have firewall protection.0 -
Most people have a router nowadays, and if they don't windows firewall has been standard for 7 years or so. You are more likely to get hacked by downloading malware.!!
