i wonder if the firms get an incentive to offer jobs

They do - it's called free publicity.

Surely for the unemployed people involved its still a great thing that they end up with jobs????

Which it is of course - however, those people not involved with the programme who were also competing for the jobs on offfer may have a different opinion.

I take it that voluntary work hayley was on about is part of this back to work programme,
yes and its not voluntary. i wonder how many of them were biting their tongues when it comes to what they really think about it.

Liked the attitude of the old boy on voluntery work. Standing-there eating a bag of crisps whilst the other two worked-on. If Hayley had asked me why I was standing-round whilst two blokes shovelled manure, I would have replied "I'm supervising"
if i was feeling brave i would have said this is voluntary unpaid work so i can take as many breaks as i like. if i wasnt feeling brave i would have said sorry and started working but would make no effort and skived every time her back was turned. yes i know its petty.

Ive been made redundant 3 times in 10 years. But I wouldnt let myself get to the point where I needed to attend one of her classes.
the way things are going you may not get a choice if you are ever out of work again. i believe people can be sent on the new workfare scheme from day 1.

I think what I learnt from watching and my thoughts in general is that the 'Fairy godmother' is a positive, motivated individual who encourages these
people to do something about being jobless. These people probably don't have anyone in their lives that encourage them to work and some may well have been brought up with 'having a job' being a low down priority. Why do I need and want to work? A big reason is my parents would kick my behind if I didn't.

So maybe we need more job advisors with that much enthusiasm and motivation, because it's infectious.

So happy for the people getting jobs and obviously keeping them, looks like they just needed that guidance and a little push.
we also need them to be better qualified than her. she didnt have a clue how to help the lad who had been sanctioned. although she did win some respect when she talked about the damaging effect sanctions have.

a4e will get paid £9,400 for getting someone a job who used to claim incapacity benefit. the work programme

if a4e can get a young person on Jobseekers Allowance a sustained job they get £2,400. the work programme

Essentially the people who got the contracts have been made very rich, ok so it employed lots of people also, must be nice to get a "senior admin job" paying £45k a year.

My friend said they sit in the office most days and just have to manage a small team of admin staff. They even get a performance related bonus, but its just an amount they get for doing there job, there is no target or requirement. They openly admit that theres so much waste going on and they spend half the day on face book and online shoppping. Last time we spoke they was hoping to get promoted so they actually had somthing to do.

The figures are nothing like those you have quoted. They weren't even that high under NDDP which was a very lucrative contract. Not only that but much of the money is back end loaded and is paid based on a person sustaining employment for 2yrs or more. Only at the sustainability stage is the majority of the moeny released.
