She found out I went to a interview last year and she was literally shouting at me about how hard she's worked to get me a promotion in my place (she hasn't, 3 years and I've got nowhere and just found out today that there was never any chance of me getting anywhere because HR wont allow for anybody to move onto a higher payband ect because of funding) and how disappointed she was with me and how I'd never get anywhere in the other job.

If I were treated that way and I'd got another job lined up, if she gave me sh1te, i'd tell her to go f*** herself :)

You owe them nothing and for once you have the upper hand because they have nothing to threaten you with ;)
Realise that your boss is merely another human being despite what she may think of herself, when she leaves that building she's NOBODY.

Hi everyone, done it! She didnt shout, I got the "you're making a big mistake, its a nothing job, you'll get nowhere in life and I'm not giving you a reference" I just said I'm not here to argue this is my notice. I walked out as she was sneering at the wording I'd used. Feel sick still, dreading the next four weeks. Thanks so much for your help everyone xxx

    well done! Onwards and Upwards
  • Well done!

What a horrible woman though, how on earth did she get to be in a position of authority over others?

I once had a boss like her and like you, my stomach was churning at the thought of handing my notice in. I quite enjoyed it in the end though, but she did try to make my life miserable during that last month. I didn't let it get to me, said no to her unreasonable demands as I knew I was out of there soon!

Keep smiling, there's light at the end of the tunnel for you :)

i think we've all heard the "you're making a mistake" speech before - the rest of it is just her being extremely unprofessional & catty, if i were you i'd essentially turn up and do bare minimum, no sense in giving her the satisfaction of making you bust your a$s when you know she's not going to give a reference!

  • Hi GenJar

    Well done so far.

I would speak to the "dragon's" boss and ask for a personal reference, explaining that this is due to the old moo refusing to provide one.

No doubt she will lie through her teeth but it marks her card and if she makes any statements which are untrue, you could threaten them with a constructive dismissal claim.

If there are other managers or supervisors that you get on with at the company, one of them may be willing to provide a reference?

    Good luck
    Phil
