What's the worst that can happen? It seems the worst would be that she might shout at you. So what? You're leaving. You could hand in your resignation and then, if she starts being difficult, just walk out of the room.

Last time we had a difficult convo, I tried to walk out and she grabbed me! In all honesty I'm a little afraid of swinging for her (I wont, I have more control than that but she really really knows how to push my buttons). I'm mostly afraid of being trapped in a little room with her having questions I don't want to answer fired at me.

The job I've been offered, I went for the interview a year ago (the one she shouted at me about), I didn't get the job because the person I was against could start straight away, then on Friday out of the blue they emailed me with a job offer.

Last thing I want to do is tell her its the same job she bollocked me for last year. I'm afraid she won't give me the reference I deserve (I know she can't give me a bad one but still, she can make it be not as good as it should be.) To counteract this I've managed to get a judge to give me a personal reference, I hope this helps a little.

I'm no good at things like this, I go to bits and either tell the frank truth or lie so much that I forget what I've lied about.

Please keep your fingers crossed for me if you can :(

(I'm only 22 by the way, I've never handed a notice in before, my previous job I was in for 3 years too and was made redundant.)

all you need to say is the contract minimum

    dear sir

i resign giving the 4 week minimum. my last day of work will be 01/08/11

    yours

    anything else is personal.

if your exit interview or pre exit interview is with your manager just say its because of increased pay you are leaving. if its with her superior say its the pay and the culture of the team - lack of leadership etc etc

Again, thank you all so much for your advice. Don't think I'll be sleeping much tonight but I'm going to try! Goodnight all, I'll let you know how it goes! Might secretly put my phone onto record just in case it does turn nasty.

You could ask your boss's boss for a reference instead. By the way, she CAN give you a bad reference - it's a myth that people can't - but anything she says must be true.

Theres nothing really bad that she can say about me, I work hard and I'm constantly doing the worst bits of the job so that nobody else has to.. with a smile on my face. I think thats what annoys her most.
  • ok.. I need to check this - do you have a contract for this new job? Do not resign unless you do

I comprehensively disagree. Either tell the truth or say nothing. Definitely don't cover for the supervisor with a lie.

Lesson for the future. Don't accept being grabbed by a supervisor. And given that this has happened, it would be quite reasonable not to be alone with her in a 1 to 1.

If she demands an exit interview consider saying you want someone else in the room with you or want to conduct it with her and her boss as well. She's obviously quite scary for you and if she got physical last time then I can see your reluctance.
