I asked this myself on a differnt thread. As a child neither me or DH had stocking presents, we had stocking fillers (eg small pressies in addition to large pressie) but not in a stocking.

I introduced a stocking to my DS as he saw the idea on films and wanted the same, and also I like buying the various bits. As I have no tradition as such to follow I didn't know whether to wrap or not. Another member was talking about the joys of unwrapped pressies under the tree, and dubious at first I asked her to explain in more detail and she did, and I really could see the appeal.

I'm still going to wrap my kids round the tree pressies, with the exception of large items like DS bike as this is what they're used to, but not wrapping the stocking pressies gives me a bit of doing both, it also doesn't waste as much paper and saves me time.

Our family tradition is to wrap the stocking fillers up in newspaper - cheap, cheerful and you still get that lovely crackly noise when you pick up the stocking! And then you take one out, wonder what it is, carefully unwrap it... oooh, much more fun than just taking it out and seeing it.

I'm 41, by the way. Do you think I should grow up at all??

  • I don't wrap anything from Santa in stocking or anywhere else. I only wrap presents from us to the kids. I thought that's what everyone did!

I'm a "wrap everything" person - except the fruit and last year the kids got bikes, so they were left outside till last minute.

we wrap the "main" presents from "father christmas" just not the smaller things in their stockings

i guess it all stems from what our parents did when we were small ? as i know i do what mine did !

  • I didn't use to wrap, hadn't even thought about it untill I met my partner who always wraps his childrens stocking presents so I decided to and now I have the past 3 years, I think its more exciting and prolongs the anticipation.

My mum never wrapped mine though and I never even thought about it, it was just so exciting having a big lumpy american tan stocking on the end of my bed and I used to close my eyes so I couldn't see what was in it until I pulled it out.....ahhh, those were the days!
