Is it possible to move nearer the child's school to make the journey less?

I bought my first banger last year - paid £400 plus another £400 to get something or other repaired and it has been running nicely (hope I haven't just jinxed anything!!) since April 2010. It's an M reg micra. Originally I bought it for my kids to learn to drive but insurance got so expensive for them that I drive it myself instead as it is much cheaper to run than OH's petrol guzzler!

Best wishes to you. I know I found it really tough when the woman at CCCS told me I was insolvent - moi? insolvent? the thought had never crossed my mind before that. That was 4 years ago and my bankruptcy is now 3 years 2 months behind me. Life is moving on nicely.

The child is his wife's son so the household probably does claim the CHB.

It's not detailed as such in the SOA:
    Monthly Income Details
    Monthly income after tax................ 1650
Partners monthly income after tax....... 0
    Benefits................................ 0
    Other income............................ 500
    Total monthly income.................... 2150

No, it isn't detailed in SOA but he states "I am married with one step son" in his first post. ;)

Fair enough - OP please ignore my comments regarding tax credits. If you come back here and tell us who claims the child benefit for your step son, we can give you best advice on tax credits :)

What I don't understand is, why have you not spoken to your OR yet, because they are certainly not going to allow most of your SOA.

The banrupcy people have agreed to all this but the bottom line is a - never stick to any of it and b dont earn enough to cover it

Sounds like his OR has agreed quite high allowances.

As the child only lives with the OP 50% of the time and no CHB is detailed on the SOA, it's possible the child's father claims the CHB.

Do you have any Annual Leave you could take from work? I think you need a few days grace to get yours and your wife's head around what is going on and get a plan of action. You are juggling and worrying. Usually after bankruptcy, it is a huge relief because all of the worries, debtors etc. has gone and you should be allowed enough to live on.
As everyone else has said, you are not legally allowed to pay any debts back that you owed on the date of your bankruptcy. You could get in loads of trouble if you do. The person who dealt with your bankruptcy can deal with this and contact your employer if necessary to let them know that money cannot be taken out of your salary to pay people off.

Have some time off work. This will save on travel and lunch costs. Talk to your wife. Maybe her son could stay with his dad for a couple of weeks. This would give you a couple of weeks without having to pay car costs. That should give you a couple of hundred quid saved in car costs to buy a banger. Wife needs to get her butt down to the Job Centre and sign on. She needs to be realistic. Walk around local town centre. Not everyone advertises in Job Centre/newspapers. Quite often you will just find a sign in the window for vacancies. Anything is better than nothing at the moment.

btw. It appears you are running this car just for your wife to take your son to school for 3 days every 2 weeks. Madness. He is old enough to travel on his own. Could he not catch a bus/train?

After BR (only 2 months ago) I feel very 'in order' for the 1st time in my life.

I agree, I think you need to take a few days off work, and sit down and crack through this properly. Did you not do that just prior to going BR? It seems odd that your OR would allow these very high car costs - it just isnt economical, or remotely sensible. Take some time, sit down and WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN and talk seriously to your wife.

Good luck. There is a way forward, but you need to take the time to find it.
