Is a car worth 80k?

You can tell a lot about a person by the car they drive. Bit like Forrest Gump and shoes.
Imagine the type of person who drives a dirty 8 year old Focus. Eurgh.
I drive either a 1994 Hilux Smurf or a 1987 Toyota MR2, both have V6s.:rotfl:
I guess I'm just a hillbilly speedfreak.
The only cars I'd want to spend vast sums of cash on (if I had it) would be rare/unusual 70s Japanese cars like the KPGC10 (Skyline) or RA28/TA23 Celicas.
They would of course need their own heated garage.:cool:0 -
I've found the best method is to work for Jaguar Land Rover, work your way up and get a company car!
Our customer base is varied but we do have some customers with 5+ Range Rovers and a couple of Discoverys parked at their stately homes.
if i had the money i would still buy one. I get a 10% discount but its still not quite in reach!MFW - <£90kAll other debts cleared thanks to the knowledge gained from this wonderful website and its users!0 -
The showroom and the sale is the smallest part of a dealerships profit, they make loads of money on warranty claims direct to the companies and from parts sales - especially on higher end luxury vehicles where parts are quite expensive so the markup can be fairly high too.fadetogrey wrote: »Thing I always wondered about expensive car showrooms for RR BMW etc.How do they keep such showrooms and make money? I mean realistically in RRs case how many customers come in even in a week and buy a new car? and im sure even if they are wealthy if they splash out on a new roller this week they are not coming back this year at least so how do they make money? and by the way I admire your taste in cars but if I had the money it would be a lexus 430 in metallic gold.now wheres that lottery ticket?:beer:
On warranty claims they claim anywhere between £60-£90 per hour labour to the Manufacturer plus parts.MFW - <£90kAll other debts cleared thanks to the knowledge gained from this wonderful website and its users!0 -
Isn't it down to the individual to decide what they spend their hard earned (on inherited) on?
A £80k car may seem vulgar to some, aspirational to others ,and pocket money to a lucky few.
Personally, I would never buy a new car - because I know the value to be had in buying a car at 10% or less of it's original sale price. But if I were to come into money, a good proportion of it would go into cars, because I love them.
All this stuff about 'people trying to be something they're not'
,sorry, didn't realise you had to be 4th generation Surrey to be allowed to own a car you like the look of! 0
