Is a car worth 80k?

As much as some may hate it the fact remains that this country loves motoring and for many cost does not enter the equation.
The Government knows this Banks know this Insurance Companys know this and it will not change.0 -

But who are these 'other people'?0 -
Where's the flip side?
No one should be able to buy a new car, only 2nd hand old bangers
Should they bit limited to £4,995

People support the same football teams as their friends, is that a mere coincidence?
Two of my friends house share and have exactly the same car (Clio 182's), is that a coincidence?

How many women now want to have weddings like that of Kate Middleton?
People in small tribes in the Amazonian rain forest, do they want £50k sports-cars? if I offered the choice between a super sharp knife or the keys to a brand new Porsche 911, which do you think they'd grab?
the keys to the porsche cos then they would be able to drive to B&Q, buy a super sharp knife AND get to keep the porsche!0 -
I'd much rather spend 20k on a secondhand Chevy Suburban. That means I get the biggest car on the road AND no one else has one.
And save 60k, or more realistically be able to afford rather than go without... 0 -
Is a car worth 80k, it is to some, Why does anyone spend their money in the way they do?
I have a weakness for high end hi fi, and most people dont understand why I would shell out large sums for a few bits of kit when the majority are quite happy with a £100 box from Dixons
Why does my Mrs like wearing AP underwear when she could get clackers from the market cheaply?, simply because they make her feel fabulous about herself, resulting in a huge confidence boost.
If I see somone driving a 100k+ car I dont have jeolous thoughts, I usually think Good for you, or on a few occasions why on earth did you choose baby blue/ cat vomit yellow for a bentley.
My own car does between 12-28mpg depending on driving style, I could change it for a more economical car but it puts a huge smile on my face when the twin turbos are singing their song, and I can easily justify the expense.0 -
Years ago, you bought cars based on what you could afford within your wage bracket with cash or a loan.
Over the last 15-20 years we have the advent of rising incomes and cheap but creative credit. Now a load of people can afford these cars with all the PCP's, leases etc that are available. The man without a signature.0 -

Who's gonna build new second hand cars when we've run out of the current ones?0 -
The only people who should be spending £80k on a car are the filthy rich (multi millionaires) who can genuinely afford it. A lot of people are hopeless with money, and they don't understand that spending a huge chunk of it on a rapidly depreciating luxury with high running costs is unwise. Or they do realise, but they just "must" have it.0
