So the cheapest the op can get them deliverd is £50, which is what we said, but if you can do them in less than an hour, I think me and jase1 will let you do ours.0

Pads are £14:21+vat
Discs £8:85 each + vat.
Not sure the make, but the above is for 2003, 1.1 engined Citreon C2.
Standard Ebc pads £13:42+vat
Greenstuff pads(not really needed) £38:50+ vat
Ebc discs £11:92 each + vat
Ebc turbo groove disc(not really needed) £34:58 each +vat.
Parts certainly not expensive so looks like nigh on £150 for less than an hours labour!
But it's French, you've probably got to remove the rear bumper and interior light to do the job !0 -

A quick bit of maths shows the above to be around £45 inc vat, i assume a few quid for postage, i would expct GSF and Eurocarparts to match these parts prices.
In my opinion for front pads they are very expensive, i am out of practice and a bit rusty so take longer, i would allow no more than 2 hours on a Sunday morning to sort this out, do you have a relative that is handy with the spanners, pads and discs are pretty simple on the front, no handbrake mechanism to sort out, much simpler than drum brakes.
As suggested try and find a local independant bloke, i have a bloke near me that fitted a clutch to my mates Cavalier for £60 cash in hand. Clutch cost around £80/90 at the new Euro Car parts shop, so a new LUK clurch supplied and fitted for £140/150.
I think Mr Clutch wanted over £300 odd, maybe more, though his Cavalier is the easy one to do, just move the gearbox to the side0 -

Indeed. It was actually £65 I was charged, just had a look. £35 for the discs and pads, and £30 for one hour fitting, and that was mate's rates with other stuff being done at the same time. I think it would be closer to £70-80 for the job on its own.0 -
Last time I did mine it was nearer two hours than one.
But I spent time cleaning and greasing everything.
It just took me nearly two hours to change the back box on my exhaust.
Most of that was spent trying to get the old box off.
Hacksaw on the pipe, the hacksaw down the length of the stub, then prising it open to get it off the middle pipe.
And the hacksaw can move about an inch, next to the brake lines, and a few inches from the fuel tank.
(I was tempted to take it into a "Kwik Fit", but I can get the Vauxhall silencer cheaper than a copy part, and the last one lasted 8 years)
It's ok saying how fast it should be, until you find 8 years of rust in there....0 -
Three garages in my area will charge between £90-£100 for front discs and pads fitted to a 206. This was a year ago though.0

Done the wifes discs and pads in around an hour a couple of days ago (absolutely nothing went wrong, a first).
Then took nearly 3 hours to remove an anti roll bar tie pin. (between mopping up blood, tea, swearing and getting it off)0 -
I ran a garage for long enough and worked on my own cars for long enough to appreciate the difference between the time it takes a home mechanic working at home to do a job and the time it takes a garage mechanic with all the right tools to do a job. Power tools are just one thing that makes things easy, then if you consider the time saved by having a two post life you can easily see how such jobs can be turned round pretty quick.
It isn't unusual for a quick fit clutch place to turn around clutch jobs in a morning, but they would take a home mechanic a weekend.
I would expect a mechanic to take under an hour to do a simple disc and pad change on a C2, I would allow more on a PITA car like a Hyundai Accent due to the discs being a nightmare to get off, you should take a look at one in a breakers yard if the wheels are off, they are seriously like something from a miniature commercial vehicle!
Brake jobs like this are bread and butter, though some garages try to make stupid profits off such jobs, I preferred to make money from repeat business rather than over charge every customer like many garages like to do.
I wouldn't pay the price the OP was quoted to change discs and pads on my previous Subaru Legacy, let alone a little french city car, from memory I think the C2 has Lucas calipers, not exactly unusual technology.
Lots of different cars have very similar brakes on the front.0 -
i did mine on a focus about 6 months ago and cost me £12
i fitted myself, took about 20 mins.
very easy to do.0
