Yep, ink levels show. I can't get even the nozzle test & print head alignment pages to print correctly! I'm wondering if I adding the cartridges wrong or something silly. I can't find any step by step instructions for dummies.

Don't think the ink levels would show if they were in incorrectly, you might be able to hover the mouse over a cartridge colour on the main page to get the number, also the colours are shown where you insert them

Are you likely to get anywhere with the seller?

Their live chat is worth a go, if they identify a fault then it increases your chances of having it replaced

    £60 at argos until 29/07/2011

Y I'm wondering if I adding the cartridges wrong or something silly.

You are removing the tab off the top of the cartridge before inserting it aren't you?

I cannot believe how cheap they are selling for on ebay. This one was supposed to be in very good condition and only went for £5.50! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Epson-Stylus-SX515W-All-In-One-InkJet-Printer-/150633600148?pt=UK_CamerasPhoto_Printers_Printers_JN&hash=item2312765494

Yep, the cartidge tells you to do it, so hard to get it wrong. Then I just clicked it in. It's showing the ink levels etc so I dont think I've done it wrong.

Make sure you can handle the waste ink reset issue when buying them second hand. (And are aware of it when buying new too!)

    What does this mean?

As per my posts above, I've not been able to get mine going right yet. The seller of the inks has offered to refund after I return, but I'm now not sure if I should try another seller and hope they are better, or if I have to pay extortionate amounts for Epson inks.

Some older Epson printers were covered by using SSC Utility to reset the waste ink counters etc. The project has been abandoned and so newer printers are unlikely to be covered

What is the make of the cartridges which do not work?
  • Santer, sorry for the slow reply. I did not see your post. The cartridges were for Rextras on ebay. Tried a few and they did not work.

I decided to give some genuine Espon cartridges a go. Got all 4 for £15 which is a bargain, but not compared to compatibles!

Anyway, they made no difference. During the course of 4 head cleans, the cyan ink is now empty! Makes me worry how long this would last if they'd actually been used!

Really not sure what do now. Think the printer may be a duff.

If it is in warranty, contact Epson, explain you have used all the ink in the genuine cartridges which came with the printer doing head cleans trying to get a decent nozzle check.

Ask them about their £10 contribution towards transport for an exchange unit direct from them, if they do not know about it, ask to speak to someone else, or get them to ask the supervisor.

Something is clearly wrong and it should not happen with a new printer, nor should you have to take ages running procedures which do not improve things.

Make a note of everything it does not do as it should and use their live chat, they will either show you how to fix it or you can have it exchanged.

Thank You for saying where the inks were from, though no one else has had a problem with Rextras, and if you also had a problem with a different make, then it has to be the printer.

They may suggest taking it in to an Epson Centre, this is fine as you keep the original printer, though the ones they send as an exchange usually arrive with a set of inks
