Wireless printer, scanner (+fax) with cheap ink?

Hi,
Could someone recommend a wireless printer/scanner which takes cheap ink?
Either manufacturer ink that is cheap or 3rd part cartridges.
I've heard Epson models are a good option, although some newer models don't appear to have cheap
cartidges available (yet?).

The Epson SX515W is currently £72 at Dixons and uses compatible sets at approximately £4:24 plus delivery, I use Pro Jet in mine. UKDVDR and Bigpockets stock them. You may find other makes on amazon and ebay with delivery included, but have no knowledge of their quality etc.

Epson have the SX515W at £59 but out of stock though you can ask them to e-mail when back in stock

The SX425W is cheaper to buy but compatible sets are selling at £15 a set on amazon at the moment

Photo Paper here amongst others

Epson have Fax on their FWD and some FW models though they are a lot more extra than getting a fax machine

Thank you. Do you think cheaper ink will become available for the 425? And if so, when?0
-
I wouldn't think it is likely very soon, though it may happen
It took them 3 months longer than the age it already took them to get any compatible, and then at 4 to 6 times the cost of others, also Pro Jet haven't released a set that I have seen so they either cannot do it cheaply or they do not see a big enough market for it.
If you prefer wireless, e-mail Epson and ask them when their SX515W will be in stock, and if it will be at £59
If you pay £71 to get one now, depending on how much ink you use, at £4:24 a set for the ink, you will recoup the difference after 1 to 2 sets
The 515W has a better scanning resolution

Thank you very much for all the info.
Unfortunately, there's an urgent job I need sorting with it tonight/tomorrow morning. The old scanner we had no longer works.
Therefore, I opted for the 425. Pained me to do it considering I don't like to pay more for something if I can help it.
I got it for £49.99. The other option would have been to get the 515 at £99.99. True that I could have recouped that back after about 5 refills but I couldn't bring myself to pay £30 more than Dixons for it - and we do very little printing at home.
So now it's a matter of finding the cheapest ink available for the 425.
Any suggestions regarding this? Amazon?0 -
Here at £15 a set, if these have 13ml of ink then they are the cheapest of those I've seen
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Compatible-Magenta-Cartridge-BX305FW-Cartridges/dp/B003YGQXXA?
Here at £11:49 a set and have 19ml of ink, however, the seller ratings from a while back are not so good, though recently seems to have turned that round to 99.7% positive

Not sure what to make of the " do not last very long " comments as at 19ml they are the largest capacity cartridges I have seen, yet
The price drops a bit when the listing is due to run out, though most have 16 days at the moment0 -
How long does it take to get through one cartridge (not opened it yet so wondering whether to pay the 99.99 for the 515 :S0

If you are not printing photo's or colour image intensive documents, a while
Avoid turning the printer off, as they run a warm up routine whenever they are switched on, which uses ink, to the point where it could be the biggest factor of ink use. The printer will go to standby after a few minutes.
Have you got a currys or Dixons nearby to get it at £72, also the scanner is 2400 by 2400 for the 515 against 1200 by 2400 for the 425
Earlier in the day you could have asked prontaprint to scan it
Have you got any friends who have a scanner, shame to be rushed in to getting one for one job0 -
just to let you know there is a £30 disccount voucher for printers from amazon in the discount codes vouchers thread!!:T0

Currys/Pc world are selling the 515 for £99.99. I've checked with Dixons and the earliest they would deliver is mid next week.
PC world won't match Dixons offer.
I'm going to hang on to the 425 but not open it, try and scan the documents tomorrow morning somewhere - library I think and hopefully order the 515 from Dixons, returning the 425 first.
If I can't scan before the files need sending I've got the 425 in reserve.
Sounds like a plan.0 -
