  • Thanks Red, they are I guess entitled as I owe them it, and no amount of 'I won't get a loan' will they listen too. I can use my first months contract wages to pay the thing off in full, but inbetween times I'll write to them again and try and reason with them.

Moral of the story - don't put your head in sand about tax, no matter how small it is relatively, it still bites you on the bahooky. Which I knew.

Lady at council of superhelpfulness, sending out forms today, will arrive tomorrow.

    Sneaking on at work.....................
Massive hugs, not read all but Congratulations on job. As for tax, they cant have what you havent got. You will NOT be paying them out of your first months wages. You will offer them the maximum amount you can afford monthly even if it is a £1. You have not done anything wrong so dont let the Barstewards make you feel that way (I know easier said than done). They are not so quick at paying out what they owe so why should they make you feel bad. As for forcing you to apply for loans I am sure that cannot be legal somehow. Plan of action........ Do not deal with them by telephone, silly Brittany types with headsets and power going to their heads never know what they are talking about, different people tell you different things. Write a letter of complaint because of the way that you were spoken to today. Better still, go and see your MP and ask them to write to the tax office on your behalf given that you were reduced to tears, have no set income and knew that you would be turned down by the bank but were forced into the situation anyway.

Sorry have to rush off - internet due back on next week so will catch up then. Massive hugs.

Sending you dodgy hugs from me and licks and sweet puppy noises in your ear from Rodders.

I cannot believe how unreasonable the tax people are. I know several self employed people whose tax affairs are in a right mess and they haven't been told to take a loan, bl**dy cheek.

Listen to what Mrs Moo says, they cannot have what you haven't got. Do not pay it out of your first months wages.

And get applying for those benefits! If you feel you have to pay the tax people quickly agree to pay them whatever this monthly benefit will be - that way you won't be any worse off than you are now.

But I would make the bar stewards wait as long as I possibly could

You slipped in a comment saying you hate your life - I cannot tell you how many people reading here on MSE or on your blog would want to swap with you, me for one!

  • Aw thanks chaps. Talked to mr f who said very similar things.

Thankfully from now on, I'm on the straight and narrow :)

Nice tea, great chat watching a lovely movie - Julie and Julia if you've not seen it really worth a watch.

Mrs moo nice to see you about angel lady - wrote a stern letter and will pop into local mp office when in town and leave a message. Xx

Lots of ((((((hugs)))))) Pippi, what an insensitive prat at the tax office!!

I agree, get things down in writing, it's amazing how thing can get done magically when it's down in black and white...either a letter or in an email.

You have got me thinking, I need to tell the tax office that I am now self employed!! I have been meaning to do it for ages, and my first pay-cheques came today :j. So tomorrow I will give someone a ring to see what I need to do. I will be having two businesses: the IT work and the crafting/creative stuff. I have a name for the craft business (Llana & Floss), but will probably work under my own name for the IT work.

I know when I was planning to start up a garden design business, I tried to register my business before I got any work....and was told by a tax-man to wait until I was actually being paid. That's my excuse...nothing to do with heads and sand, who me?..oh no, not me!!! :o:o:o

Think I will open up a new account for the work money. At Pershore College, we were recommended to have two accounts: one to put all monies earned from the business, then another for the tax man...1/3 of the monies earned, transferred every month. Mind you, with two businesses, that's four accounts :eek: It would simplify things though....I think!!

Oh crikey, it is getting complicated already! :D

Good luck with getting things sorted...off to do sopme sewing.

Oh Pippi, what a dreadful day you had! I'm so sorry :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:
Fair enough, I can think more of this now and see if I want to apply. OH and I are seperate for money, he's here very erratically - I need to get my head about that one. The lady was lovely, I explained about OH, told her I was confused and she said, I should apply:A we are seperate, but my morals is finding that hard, so I still don't know what I'll do.

    On the other hand.

    :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
The one to the tax office was NOT helpful and I'm sitting here in almost tears

OK, its only (ONLY) £1080.59  but thats from a while back
They won't take a repayment nor will they make a repayment plan with me until I've applied for a loan to pay it from the bank and been refused, only then with a letter from the bank will they talk to me about a payment plan

I hate my life and my inept behaviour sometimes. But, quite simply I couldn't deal with the tax stuff before now.

Okay now, this is important - the bit about morals. Excuse me for being an old fashioned socialist at heart, but ..... !!!!!! :rotfl:You're raising tomorrow's citizens, you're supporting and connecting your community, you're rescuing the local ecology, you're trying your damnedest to support yourself and your children. Who else is official support meant for, if not for you? Of course its meant for you - and its not immoral, or charity - its your **entitlement**. Only 100 years ago, my great x 4 grandmother died in the workhouse. The Welfare State was put into being, and still exists, so that nobody in this country ever has to go through that again. I feel very, very strongly about this, and even more strongly since I lived on the south coast of England, and see the kinds of people who really are stealing from the system - floods of them.

I'm glad your council lady was so helpful - the only thing I'd say is, that when you tell them things on the phone, confirm it in writing, because councils usually *suck* at administration

As for not being able to deal with the tax - we've all been there, its completely understandable. I'm really annoyed you had to go through that sort of trauma and apply for a loan, the only thing that reconciles me to it is that I've already seen your later posts, that you felt okay again by the evening.

Good! A complaint would do wonders, if you can bear to spend the energy on it.

Hope today goes well, Pippi, you certainly deserve a good day.

  • Morning all!

So sorry you have been through the mill with the tax people Pips. I just want to repeat what's been said already - one person may tell you one thing but a different person may tell you something else. I haven't had to deal with this particular situation, but on a different matter I did call HMRC a few times and was given different information each time - all of it wrong, it later turned out. Is there anywhere you could go to for advice - is there a Citizen's advice place perhaps?

Hope today gets off to a better start and try and think of it as just a little blip in the grand scheme of things.

My aim for today - get work done then get outside, and avoid procrastinating by reading the online news!!

Rant away KC :T You have managed to say what I have been thinking but couldn't get across very well.

Was talking to my OH about you this morning Pippi. He says to make them wait for it too. He also suggested putting what you were going to offer them as a payment plan in to a separate account and, when you have it all, pay it off in one go. Not sure this would work for you as you always have plenty of calls on your money as it is and the temptation of having it sat there when an emergency arises could be too much. Maybe an account that does not allow instant access?

  • Pippi did you know you can pay on line through the hmrc website through their bill pay system all you need is your your UTR. number. Don' think they can refuse it that way. A client of mine just wrote to them outlining what she could afford and paid that every month and she owes a lot:eek: more than you do.

I will pm you the link.;)
My finances are work in progress.
    Normal veiwing will resume shortly
