  • Can you use the bread for bread pudding KK? Squares of that make handy snacks for lunchboxes.

Dull and grey here today, still practically dark when we woke up, is winter here already?

It's a seeded bread, so I could make a savoury one, but have tried DD on that before and she turned her nose up at it! She can be rather fussy when she wants to be......oh well, I will make some bread once we run out of what's in stock, but I do have to go to Wilko's today to get a shower rail to put up whilst my bedroom window blind is being repaired, and they often have YS bread.

I like savoury bread pudding though, cheesy and mustardy, nomnomnom :)
  • Ooh, savoury bread pudding sounds good, I've often thought of trying to make some but never have, what do you put in yours?

I slice up the bread and put it in the dish (can't be precise as I use whatever dish is clean, lol). Whisk up some eggs, milk, salt and pepper and mustard, lots of mustard and maybe put some grated cheese in there, pour it over the bread, then more cheese on top and pop in the oven til it's golden and melty.

Blimey don't call me the next Nigella Lawson will you! I have no idea how hot, probably cake temperature in the cooker, about 170? or for how long......... but it's yummy with crunchy salad, mixture of textures and all that. Nomnomnom.

I'm currently making my friend's fabulous pesto rice salad for a BBQ (hopeful!) I'm going to tonight. Beloved OH is babysitting :)
  • Hey chaps scones and tea anyone?

Loving all the bread chat from kk aka nigella and troglodyte good morning lasses :)

Cuppa, catch up torrential out there, need to make a plan for today...... :)

Nice to see you about troglodyte again (())

Right banks now, coffee and debate the day - was due to be a polytunnel day - but the weather is rank, sideways rain, squally and winds (F4-5?) - but we'll see

Might be a tidy up the shed day, indoor stuff and out later in town with DD and student again.

A unified police force in scotland? Wonder how that will work and/or save money?

Here they are trialling closing the local council recycling centres (well two of them) on saturdays and sundays with a view to seeing if it works and trying to close others (I think), seems insane to me - they've recycling targets, most folk use them at the weekends (they shut at 4pm anyway) so you can't go after work. How on earth will that work?

Bank and money fairy action to try and spot

ETA one bank still the same
Other bank fat controller has a 'weird' amount of WTFC in the bank, not as much as before they changed the claim, but more than last time I got paid when £70 down - sigh - I'll never fathom that organisation out. But at least its in there which means cc payment due tomorrow will be OK and I'll have to juggle a bit for the DD's if no pay in on 15th.

I think the unified Police force will work Pippi. Having worked closely with the police anything thats crosses a boundary can be logistical nightmare and involve more police than really necessary as reps from both police forces have to be there.

As for your recycling centre, you could put in a suggestion that they open later in the morning and stay open later at night or like our local ones they don't open on a monday and instead open on a saturday.

I like the sound of a unified police force too, Pippi - I really hope it will work. But the recycling thing sounds crazy! If they have to close it for some days completely, better to close it Tuesday and Wednesday, say, or have much shorter opening hours during the week. Bonkers.

Anyway, hope your day is going to go well - I see the long range weather forecast is for another bad winter :( make sure that gate stays on!

And how lovely, your sauna evening!

Morning - brrr weather sounds a bit wild! Hope you keep dry and have a good day :)

That does seem silly about recycling centre, making it harder for people to use it.. very silly.

  • Red its brrish indeed, not much of a summer, I'm not sure I want winter to start now, autumn doesn't really happen here - well not much, we don't get bonnie colours of leaves etc - there are alot of rose hips about - might see if I can find something cunning to do with those *when* I can get out there again! I can try a suggestion from Uni for the local centre - its council run, so with all the cuts I guess alot of change is inevitable...............bonkers though eh?

Uni, I hear what you are saying, it might help, I think folk are scared of change aren't they?

KC well, the dreaded gate at the house side (off 4 times now) might have to go - not sure of a solution for that one - not nearly as easy as for the chickens. Ponders.
Weather is vile, 30mph wind (not that bad I guess), but they are trying to harvest out there and the fields are turning into moats....................poor farmers and the cows will all be kidnapped soon - bah - it can't be THAT time of year yet.

Nice to get to the local sauna place, I've never been before, how bad is that? Cheap enough to go and if you go at weekends, kids go free (upto 2 kids) might be soemthing to do with kids in winter? Also made me get my cossy out and think Ergh I need to lose weight!

    Today
I'm off to investigate the cupboards, do a bit of baking and raid stores for delights
    Tomatoes to pick and freeze
Basil to have a look at, its slowing down but one plant going strong still from April :)
Think about paperwork/webstuff - no paid work today and might dip a toe in ebay and blog the plant I've got lots of - bit mercinary (?) but its an ace plant and the propagated babbies are looking splendid - they need rehomed :) I need money, I feel a plan coming along.
Do a bit of web work if Mr F doesn't need to use all the shocking bandwidth
Check work work emails, and think about a plan for tomorrow to start to develop the 'holes' in the teaching for the veggie class I have (I only taught half of it last year, got my L plates off this year - gulp)
Find exercise stuff for going to body balance tomorrow
Pop into local small town to recycling place and check out the library - I'm not sure if I can return/use books from the big library to the little one and not sure yet when the library van comes here - that might be fun to use that when its here
    Meal plan for later
Freeze up ratatioue made yesterday from more home grown (HG) tomatoes, and HG courgettes and a couple reduced aubergenies
Portion up the spag bog left over for lunches
Check out what 'stale' bread we have and make cheesy garlic bread for lunch? Or attempt KK's nice recipe :)
    Walk dog
Feed hens and collect eggs for a chum who needs 6 for £1
    Read martins newsletter

that will keep me doing stuff at the mo :)

Kettle on and relocate butt to kitchen, but have mse on in background as a nice bit company :)
