Richie - you think it's OK for a car park owner to discriminate against a genuinely disabled individual, simply because they do not have a blue badge? That seems a bit mean. And you think that disabled people don't get ticketed? There are plenty of examples on the parking forum.
Just because you have advisability doesn't mean that you should bee titled to use dissabled parking. They're not for all dissabled people they're for those who's dissabilities affect their mobility in such away asto warrant the need of them.
If you think that it discriminates against those who just chose not to apply for one then you could say that about any discount or service offered to us anywhere that requires the blue badge or DLA letter to receive it as you don't have to apply for DLA either. But we need a system of proof to protect such services from abuse, just taking sombodies word for it in todays world I'm afraid is just entirely unrealistic."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0 -
Just looking at this site in general, on one hand there is / was a massive debate about stopping clamping, stopping parking tickets on private land etc.
Now when you read this thread, it seems people actually want the clamping, parking tickets etc. on private land.
Very confusing.
Me personally, I think the same parking restrictions that apply to public land and property, highways etc, should also apply to private land, ie no parking without the owners permission, no parking in designated areas..... All being legally enforceable, so if any offence is committed, the police / council can be called and a legal parking ticket / clamp can be issued.
Now all that seems to have been suggested here is, the private clamping / ticketing firms that people are trying to get rid of, are now being asked to run supermarket car parks, oh what fun that will be in the future!0 -
I still dont see how any of this is enforcable? Parking tickets on private land as we all know are not worth the paper they are written on so where is the deterrant? Is the government really going to give these private parking ticket scum bags what they have been after for years all for the sake of freeing up a few disabled parking spaces? Really? Condem are going to have to make the private parking industry legal! Really?
I sure hope not!"You can measure a man's character by the choices he makes under pressure"Sir Winston Churchill0 -
I have to have a new hip. My consultant knows I need a new hip. I walk with a stick and each step is incredibly painful. I don't have a BB and I don't get DLA because the powers that be have decided that, without seeing me, I can walk 100 metres without pain! Do I park in disabled parking spaces in Sainsbury's? Yep, every time. The management know my position and are quite happy for me to do that.0

Yes most definately.
Its not discrimination, nor is it human rights abuse, and its not mean, its breaking the law .. .. simple as that.
This supermarket specific BB designated parking area discussion was about two groups (1) the BB holder & (2) the non BB holder, and it still is about only two groups. The third group you hoped to include was a registered disabled non-BB holder, they would already fall into the (2) group of illegal parking.
If anyone who is not a BB owner :
- was to park in a BB only area
- they have no right to do so
- and they know it
- and the law [ as it would then be ] should come down with its great clunking fist
- everyone should obey the rules / law, and that includes non-BB registered disabled
There are many kinds of disabled people, we are happy to be critical of non disabled stealing BB parking concession, we should be even handed when a registered disabled non-BB holder steals our parking concession.
Stealing is stealing is stealing. If you want to be a special interest group how about women in who are now so disabled [ because they have children ] they cant even park their car without equivalent rights / Catholics / alcoholics with gout / policemen stuck for a quick sandwich / etc. It is precisely because the BB scheme has been abused by so many people most of whom are registered BB holders that it has become unmanageable and cost ineffective, the disabled themselves are responsible and should be ashamed of their criminal misuse of the liberation [ equal status or just treatment for or on behalf of any group believed to be discriminated against ] this wonderful gift gives.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. There was an article in the Daily Express yesterday that says they are "cracking down on shoppers who pinch disabled parking spaces after a deal between ministers and supermarkets" and Aldi, M&S, Morrisons, Sainsbury's, Tesco, Waitrose and Lidl have all agreed to it.
I'm not sure if i'm allowed to put the whole article on here so have just put the first bit just in case anyone is interested in reading it. The article is on the bottom of page 22.
If enforceable it would be a good move. Personally I would start be stop issuing so many badges to those without physical disabilities and take the one of those who lend, misuse or or forget the actual owner of the badge too.

Richie, you are so right. As the ESA and DLA are to be re-checked, so should blue badges in my opinion. Strict rulings applied. Only those with a physical disability on the higher rate of PIP/DLA should get it. Anyone else should have no right. They should also allow local authorities to adopt that part of the car park and Police it.
I saw a great programme on C4 the other day where the council and Police did a crackdown in one borough . In one day they ceased 28 badges from able bodied using a relatives badge, or worst still, younger relatives of older people who did not drive, applied for the badges to save money. They should also lose their benefit.
Fraud is fraud. Full stop.
And for the person who uses the spaces because the authorities "have not got around to assessing you". You are NOT ENTITLED yet, so don't use it. What if you are turned down? Will you continue to use the spaces because YOU think you qualify?0 -

So far as this article from the daily express (yawnnnnnnnnnnn) the fatal flaws in the plan have already been pointed out by other posters so I wont hold my breath for Mr T to start dishing out parking fines surely the would be more concerned with shoppers going elsewhere should they be given a ticket?
Whilst on the subject surely the "sharing" of badges to none disabled people should be of more importance? Or indeed the thousands of people who have the badge and the brand new car all funded by the government but still play football on a Sunday, or have no problem "running" round Tesco doing the weekly shop?
Another yawwwwwwwwwwn of an article from the express, just a thought but who will get the money from the parking fines? Tesco? The private scum that put the ticket on the windscreen? Anyone who knows anything would just screw it up and throw it in the bin anyway so whats the point to begin with??
Maybe if the supermarkets were a little more generous with there car parking spaces and didn't try to squeeze us all in like battary chickens this might help to solve the problem? A few more car parking spcaes for parents with toddlers would not go amiss either, at my local tesco they have 2 huge lines of disabled car parking spaces there must be at leat 60 of them compared to 11 parent toddler spaces, now come on surely there are more people with young children going to any tesco than disabled people?
Anyhow dont worry to many "dodgy" laws would need passing before it actually happened.
Dont get me wrong I understand why these disabled spaces are important and why they are needed so if you do park in them without a badge then DONT its basic manners! If you were on a bus and someone got on with crutches and there were no seats would you not get up and offer them your seat? The why take a parking space that someone disabled would need? Manners!
Disabled spaces are a legal requirement I think whereas Parent and child spaces (I wouldn't have any personally) are notThe Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
