Blitz on Disabled Parking Cheats by Supermarkets

There was an article in the Daily Express yesterday that says they are "cracking down on shoppers who pinch disabled parking spaces after a deal between ministers and supermarkets" and Aldi, M&S, Morrisons, Sainsbury's, Tesco, Waitrose and Lidl have all agreed to it.
I'm not sure if i'm allowed to put the whole article on here so have just put the first bit just in case anyone is interested in reading it. The article is on the bottom of page 22.

Would love to think it was right but I'm not going to get excited.0

I had heard that they were going to make fines for this legally inferable and I very much hope they do."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0

Is this the article in question:

Seems similar to this one from 2008:

If they want to making parking restrictions a legally enforceable matter on private land, they should do this for all parking, disabled or not.0 -

Yes why not? I get the impression that you think this is insignificant when putting it into comparison to parking in a disabled parking space.
Some other examples could be drivers who park in private car parks without permission.
Drivers who park in parent & child spaces, with no children.
The list goes on.....0 -
Thank you Liam for putting in the link. Yes it is the same article. I didn't know it had been done before. Same old news then. Shame. I think it's a good idea though. I've seen loads of people parking where they shouldn't.0

There are private companies more than willing to take on the task. I made a post on this about a month ago, providing links to both the legislation and the clamping companies. The fact of the matter is up to this point no supermarket has ever broken ranks and had the guts to start the ball rolling.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. Any fines sent by these private parking enforcement companies are currently completely unenforceable though and have no basis in law. They are essentially just sending you an invoice not a penalty fine and they have no legal power what so ever.
The parking section of the boards just tell everybody to ignore anything sent by any of these companies as does the sites advice too."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0 -

My 'children' are over 30! Sometimes we pick up the grandchildren.
What we do, because the parking spaces are so tight and others may scratch our car, is to always have a childs seat in the back.
Have been asked many times where the child is only to tell them that it is in the store! That sorts them out.
The supermarkets should make wider spaces for all cars. When we park in Sainsburys as well as Tescos, we are only about 4" from the white line on both sides in the normal parking bays.
As for disability spaces - no I never use those, that's not fair.
And you honestly think that's ok to do?
Your cars paintwork is more important than the safety of a parents young children? Of course kids never once slip their hand free of their parents grip do they? That's not a worry at all in a busy car park is it?"Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0 -
