I wish all the newbies had joined this thread in 2009 like I did.

I was really lucky, I found out about mse in April 2009 and joined and somehow or other was on the coupon thread the first day.

    CWxx

I joined mse in 2008 missed out for ages on using mocs due to being trouted in early days and my tesco saying they didn't take them, then found it again by accident about 6 weeks before black friday, so wish I'd stuck with it just didn't realise how much could be saved.

Used the rustlers free voucher in co-op before only had 4 rustlers left and all the staff hadn't seen it before. I thought they were going to refuse it but the manager said to input manually. DH was glaring at me all the time:rotfl:. Thanks again everyone
Starting to save £2 coins again, but it is a struggle:rotfl:Not doing very well keep spending them

I was really lucky, I found out about mse in April 2009 and joined and somehow or other was on the coupon thread the first day.

In those days you could use loads of coupons, even if you hadn't bought the product at Tesco. You could only use one of each coupon though (unless you actually bought the product) per shop.

Thats the first time I heard a shop assistant called an "old trout", they were out in abundance then too and they hated it when we went to the till with 50 coupons totalling maybe £50 and getting most, if not all, of our shopping for free.

During that 5-6 months I got over £3000 of shopping completely free, but I followed the coupon policy correctly.

It was really good fun, but not without occasional problems from difficult SA's who didn't know the Tesco coupon policy.

Then we got Black Friday, in the October, no warning, the coupon policy that we knew and loved ended.

So now we make the most of coupons how and when we can.

But I wish we could bring back " the good old days"

So well done to all the newbies, your stash will soon build up, until you need more shed space, more cupboard space, you will be storing things in every room, the loft, garage, anywhere even relatives houses.

But you will save a fortune doing it, and hopefully have some fun and make lots of new friends too.

    Take care everyone.

What a lovely post, thank you CW
Yes why I never joined in 2009 is beyond me, but I guess the last few years have been difficult, last 8 months the worst but getting through it all and finding this thread has meant I have a wee hobby, something to keep me sane when the rest of my life is in turmoil.

    So thank you all :T

I often daydream of pre Black Friday days. I am still in mourning! Life was simpler then and I really didnt have to watch what we bought (as it was all free!)

Couponing now is more of a challenge! I have only come back to it the last few weeks and bringing back up the stockpile stash! New part of the cupboard filled up today with Homepride sauces for 20-40p a tin/jar.

Found 16 wombled receipts today at T's... Fingers crossed for some 'free money' tomorrow
I miss using my infinite coupons at Tesco!
2010 was the worst year ever :(
But 2011 so far has been a lot of fun! :j

Oh yes, I remember the "good old days". Ive been couponning for years, well actually since 1989 when I was pregnant with dd1 and had received my first ever "bounty bag". I remember faffing about at the till with baby brain and the SA said 'oh, just give em here, love, we'll take anything...". From that moment on I was hooked.

It was sad times when Tesco, followed by Waitrose and Asda who all called time on their wonderfully generous coupon acceptance policy.

I haven't kept a log over all those years of how much I have saved, when I was more affluent (a long time ago!) I flitted in and out of the coupon circle, but like a long lost friend, it held no grudges when I came back to it. Off the top of my head, I would say Ive probably saved around 6k over the years. That sounds an alarming amount of money doesn't it? I too am shocked at the thought.

I have to say though, that although I miss those days of free coupon use sometimes it was just too easy. These days you have to work harder to find them and combine them, the rewards are less but the satisfaction to the soul is more. Does that make any sense?

Does anyone remember when the Daily Mail, July 2008 I think, had three coupons against magazines in them, all for over £2, for Red, Psychologies and Elle. I bought so many papers that day, the guinea pigs are still pooing on them! They were a couponer's delight. £7.70 from a 50p outlay. Around that time, there was a lovely £2 nicorette one also from a daily newspaper, and a parenting magazine had an insert with loads of nappy coupons. Gert lush it was!

    memories...

Have just tried this and its working ok for me. Find it hard to find new exciting things to say about a curry sauce in 15 words. Yummy, tasty, yummy, tasty, yummy... you get my drift. lol.
Love, through the trees, past the sky, beyond the northern lights; and I won't let go. May your soul and spirt fly sweetheart x

I remember these:D They were most useful against the Tesco H & B pointers that were around at the same time. Also the clothing mocs that Tesco sent you for signing up to the clothing site worth £26 that scanned against normal shopping and you could keep signing up for more.
