Is your phone & broadband provider any good?

We're long-term Demon users and haven't had any real problems. However, the OH is quite techie and usually resolves any issues with routers etc. that aren't really Demon's problem. Also wonder whether any breaks in service are down to the local BT exchange/line rather than Demon itself.0

I get a good deal from 3 and use their MiFi which I can take and use anywhere in the UK, including airports and other normally expensive connection points. I get 5gb a month and very rarely get 'close to the plimsoll line', even though I look after 2 or 3 websites, sell goods on ebay, AND my wife is also an avid browser.0

The problem with my broadband is not my supplier (virgin) it is the state of the fixed line. (BT). We have baud rates of 0.8mb/s. I am paying for "unlimited broadband up to 1 Mbps" but this is the same price as someone having speeds of over 20 times faster than this. The excuse I am always given is that I am too far from the exchange (about 3 miles).
This is not the fundamental problem though, as my house, unless there is an unusual earthquake that moves my house 3 miles, will always be three miles from the current exchange.
What is needed is some fundamental strategic rethink about customer service. What about some more localized exchanges so that people are no longer "so far from the exchange". Or addressing the issue that the BT lines are old copper ones and not "new" fibre optic ones. BT has had a plan to lay fibre optic cables throughout the country for the last 30 years - they just haven't done it.
So in this poll I have given my broadband supplier top marks because they give an excellent service with what is available. And my fixed line BT poor service marks for the reasons above.
Anyone else got this problem?:wave:0 -
Zen is always highly rated in various polls yet it has not been included in the list. Perhaps it would have been a more comprehensive poll if there had been a space for the addition of other providers.0

Likewise Aquiss. I think Zen is a Enta.net reseller anyway (?) so maybe an option in the poll for Enta.net resellers.0 -
I used to think BT were ok but now I know they sometimes don't send you a bill, nor a reminder, then cut you off having made no effort to resolve their error or even inform you. And then when you phone to complain they make the ludicrous claim that they can't put it right because it has been passed to Collections. So no I can not recommend them at all. Stay well clear unless you wish to be abused like that. I can't comment on your other suggested providers, I have no experience of them.0

Never had BT. Started with Comtel, then NTL and now Virgin. Always had a good service.Truth always poses doubts & questions. Only lies are 100% believable, because they don't need to justify reality. - Carlos Ruiz Zafon, The Labyrinth of the Spirits0

Hi,
We've added Pipex, Tiscali (both TalkTalk providers now), Zen and Tesco.0 -
We had some appalling service from BT, where a faulty router (supplied by them) caused our connection on the exchange to be slowed to just 100kbps. After a couple of days an engineer turned up and temporarily resolved the problem (more by luck than judgement) - just 4 hours later it was back to where it was. A call back to BT told us it was probably our internal wiring (not true, test socket confirmed it was there end) and we had to wait a further 14 days before someone else would turn out. A total of 25 days without broadband and, surprise, the promised compensation never got paid.
So, we switched the BE. I can't recommend them highly enough. Their call centre may be in Eastern Europe, but they don't have a script but they do have the authority to actually deal with your query (even the technical side) and sort out your problem with a single call. They also have a forum, usenet group and ticket system for resolving problems. They also actively encourage users to contact them to see if their broadband speeds can be increased.
The only drawback, I've found is once you start adding extras to your call package (1571, caller display etc) it can become quite pricey. But well worth the money to NOT have to deal with BT again.:T0
