What everyday goods do you now consider a treat?

console yourself Spike - how much would 4 steakburgers cost you at MickyDs or Burglar Queen?0

I rarely buy fresh flowers now and have also drastically cut down on cosmetics/skincare. Takeaways are now a thing of the past.
But these were luxuries by most people's standards ... it makes me sad that some people are having to cut down on basic necessities such as food and heating. This shouldn't be happening in this day and age ...:(0 -

I agree and looking back it is certainly nothing I ever envisaged when younger to think of myself in a position like this at this age:(
when I look back and think how much money I wasted I cringe; fast food, very expensive face body and hair stuff and I always had a large bag of Haribo in my car (usually replenished every few days which probably contributed a lot to my weight!). The last one was just to look 'cool' with my friends who I gave a lift to. I can't believe how much money I wasted, if I hadn't have been so wasteful then I might have had savings when I needed them and not be in so much debt now and would be able to not worry so much about heating, light, how to get to work and affording the basics of food.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0 -
For me, coffee out. Seems like a cheap indulgence, but it really adds up over a few weeks so I've been drinking less. I'm going to get a thermos and largely stop the take away coffee soon
Frustratingly, modern thermos aren't that good so I'll try to find an old one somewhere.
I'm buying less newspapers too, but I miss having the papers. The quality of the articles is so much better than online. My favourite paper is one of the more expensive ones too. Maybe with all the other savings I'm making I can afford the papers more often.
I don't buy magazines any more, I read them at the library, which I actually prefer because they keep them all in order and take up their space with them, so my house is emptier now.
As for cut flowers, I've never bought them, but I've always had a few houseplants to make the rooms nicer. Buy anything tough, popular and cheap (typical supermarket plants generally), so peace lilly, [FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]anthurium, rubber plant or whatever you find. With half decent care they can last years and look good.
Just noticed other people mentioning kitchen roll. I had a "why do I buy this just to bin it!" moment years ago at the store and just never bought it again. I remember missing it at first, but now I can't really think of anything people use it for. Maybe draining fried food. I use newspaper for that now and a lot of other things like cleaning windows and wrapping dry food.

I too stopped buying kitchen roll ages ago. I dont do coffees out anymore either, nor flowers or even plants these days. I have stopped buying DVD's to unless they are heavily discounted. Infact I dont buy anything thats not discounted if I can help it.0

It seems for us right now that if it isn't a food source it doesn't get bought.0
