No magazines, or newspapers as I now read them online and the only books I buy are my core text books that the library never has enough of.
We used to have a weekly takeaway, which dropped to fortnightly and is now more like monthly or less.
We used to stop for coffee and buns when window shopping and buying odds and end of tat in the Town at the weekend. We don't go often at all anymore, and if we must it's on a Sunday when parking is 50p all day and no cafe stop.
I don't buy hair treatments or toiletries and just use olive oil, or use what I inevitably end up with for Birthdays/Christmas.
A latte or a new lipstick is a treat not a weekly occurance."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0 -
Costa hot chocolate is now reduced to a once a month treat when I go into town - I do combine it with a stroll round Waterstones making notes of the books I want to reserve from my local library though

Only buy newspapers on a Sunday - luckily it takes me all week to read them and do the sudoku's and crosswords
Everything else is reduced, basic or on offer - I am now a seasoned reduced to clear section diver
As my dad always used to say 'Just because you've got the money doesn't mean to say you have to spend it all at once'0 -
Oh Happy Birthday for Monday Spike  Hope you enjoy your Whiskey and may your hangover be painless

Used to go to the pub every friday, not any more! Don't even go once a month, just buy some alcohol from the shop if we want it.
Used to buy DVD's all the time, just rent now, saves us a fortune.
Given up most cleaning products, use vinegar, soda crystals, economy bleach and bicarb soda for cleaning surfaces.0 -
If your on the look out for dvds, they are 5 for £5 in my local cash converters :T. Its brill imho esp when the disneys are there, if you haven't already got it stick it on ebay and you can easily earn the whole fiver back
. This then makes it an affordable treat. :j Hth x -2lbs

I miss being able to just go for a bath!! Nowadays I think first of the cost of water and heating it.
After allowing for my monthly utility bills which are almost all on Direct Debits and a set amount for food/toiletries/cleaning type stuff (which is stretching less and less every week), there is simply nothing left over to buy any extras or treats.0 -

Same for me. I get through a lot of candles in the winter - saves a few bob on heating and lighting (as long as I don't set fire to my house. Again.).0 -
Oh Greenqueen, I know what you mean about baths!
When we moved from a non-metered house without a shower into our current one with, I decided that baths were to be a thing of the past. It's worked. We haven't ever used the bath and our water bill is well below average for me plus two older teenagers but there are times when I would love a good long soak with bubbles. Problem is that I know if I begin this, everyone will want baths and they will become more and more frequent and the bill will rise.

All I need to stock up with during the week is milk and bread.
hello everyone, I've been lurking on this forum for ages but haven't been able to add anything useful until now! If you have a Lidl near you they do a version that are just as nice but half the price.
Now I'm off to read the rest of the thread to no doubt find someone else has already said this :rotfl:0 -

They have! Back to watching and learning for me, thanks for the tips everyone!:D0
