I wouldn't dream of looking down on people - this is a support board and that is what I believe (obviously naively) I am doing.
It's just trying to discuss an alternative to Tesco, Sainsburys etc etc.
I've saved money by going there and am sharing it with everyone. It's worked for me so why can't it work for others ?
The thread was started with good intentions and hopefully will carry on that way. I hope I will pick up a few tips from it ie check the quality of the meat etc etcThanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.0 -
Snaggles wrote:Willsnarf, I have the greatest of respect for your opinions, and your right to express them, however, more and more often, threads on this board are degenerating into childish bickering. Yes, you could choose pretty much any post and pick holes in it, hey, everyone has their faults, but there didn't appear to be any malicious intent in the original post, and it has, in fact, opened up an interesting and, until now, argument free discussion. My point is, can't we just stop criticising each other NOW and get on with discussing the subject at hand?
is a discussion not an arguement of two or more differant views in itself? All i was saying was that i disagreed with the OP for the reasons people don't use Lidl and Aldi and that i took offence with being put into the snobbish bracket. I'm not saying it had any malicious intent and i congratualte the OP for being where he is but all i am saying is that by myself using tesco and doing my R n R's i recieve a greater benefit from them than using lidl or aldis.

Ok I am dumb what is an R n R?
I shopped in lidl yesterday, I go there occasionally and i am always pleased with the quality, however I usually go to Tesco out of habit and I enjoy shopping in Sainsbury's. However, have made a promise to myself to go to lidl more often.

Sorry, I think there is a huge difference between a discussion and an argument. I enjoy being party to a discussion, but not party to an argument, therefore I will make no further comment on this, other than to say I wasn't saying your opinion was wrong, but i do think it could perhaps have been expressed slightly less judgementally, particularly as the crux of your post was that you didn't enjoy being judged by the OP."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250

I know so many teachers shop in Lidl and Aldi - basically good value, and quality to go with it. But the best thing is its considered to be "skanky" by the kids so they wouldnt be seen dead in there. So no hassle from school kids while you shop.
and if you do ever see one in there you can have their lives, cos they'l not dare put a foot wrong in case you tell their mates. lol

Lidl might be OK for buying food and cheap items, but I would never buy an expensive item from there, as I think thier refunds policy sucks. I bought two cordless mice from them (one for me and one for my son) and they were not compatable, when I went to get a refund they would not give me a cash refund (I paid in cash,) thier policy is to give you a reciept and you then have to wait for a cheque from head office, by the time you get it and then take it to your bank, and wait for it to clear could take up to a month or more.
Hence my spending limit for any one item from Lidl is £200 -

I must admit, I like both Aldi and Lidl for their continental goods (at this time of year their lebkuchen is a good deal). Then again, I used to live in Germany where Lidl was the supermarket, so to me, its no different to Tesco. Just depends which way I'm coming home as to which one I go into. How long til pay day?
