I would be intrigued to know how I am 'preachist' and 'look at me'.
As I put in the OP, I used to be a snob on shopping but when I had my LBM it put things in perspective and I had to go out and find the best deals for my budget.
As this is a DFW board, it was pointing out my failings in the past that may help someone else to find another way to save some cash. Isn't that the aim of shared ideas ?Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.0 -
I didn't think it came across as 'preachist' or look at me either, come on, lets not have another thread reduced to petty squabbling based on an assumed 'tone' of a post."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250

richardvc wrote:I have stolen this from another thread (apologies) 'just discovered Lidl' and after reading that begs one question -
Why are / were so many of us (myself included until 18 months ago) snobs when it comes to shopping at supermarkets when we are all in debt ?
We are just giving our money away to these big corporations ie Tesco, Morrisons etc and not even enjoying a lot of what we buy ! But because of our attitude we won't go into the likes of Lidl, Aldi etc !
Your presuming people don't go to Aldi for only these reasons when as it has been shown people have other reasons
It's madness !
Reading 'just discovered Lidl' proves you can spend less, get better value AND quality.Exactly what proof is there??
To save up to a grand a year - that's only £20 a week - I have more than happily put up with all the downsides of Lidl. Come to think of it, there aren't any, the shops full and the staff are polite and helpful and you can park right outside !!How about R n Ring, i have had £1200 worth of goods inc very nice meat, drink, games, consoles etc etc
For those of you who won't consider shopping at Lidl etc, lose your snobbishAgain presuming its down to snobbishness guard and get in there. Considering we are all in debtNot everyone on here is in debt! and looking for ways to cut back on expenditure yet not lose our standard of living, I cannot believe people like giving their money away when they do have a really viable alternative.
Lidl are great value, have a varied selection of items that you will really enjoy and the quality outstrips Tesco etc - it's your money, why not enjoy what you get and stop giving it away ?Who says we are giving it away
As usual, I shall await your valued opinions !!
Ps I am not MD of Lidl !!
Its your view but to me its a bit snobbish in itself and looking down on people that don't choose Lidls or Aldis and would rather use one of the big boys

Willsnarf, I have the greatest of respect for your opinions, and your right to express them, however, more and more often, threads on this board are degenerating into childish bickering. Yes, you could choose pretty much any post and pick holes in it, hey, everyone has their faults, but there didn't appear to be any malicious intent in the original post, and it has, in fact, opened up an interesting and, until now, argument free discussion. My point is, can't we just stop criticising each other NOW and get on with discussing the subject at hand?"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250
