  • I work at Sainsbury's and even with my staff discount,I find that a lot of things are still cheaper in Lidl's,especially when fruit and veg are half price.

I am certainly not embarrassed to shop at Lidl's,I find their products are good quality and good value.I often see colleagues from Sainsbury's in there too,so I am not the only one.

I do think a lot of people are really snobbish about Lidl's,but if they want to spend more money in other supermarkets, then that is up to them,I suppose.

  • I wont go to Lidl or Aldi's. I dont buy my fruit and veg from the supermarket, i use the local green grocer, and get most of my meat from my parents (they are farmers) or the local butchers. I wouldnt buy food from macro either ...its my choice but i just couldnt do it.

I did go to Lidl with my friend, she tried to convert me, and there was nothing there I would buy, I guess I like to buy Heinz Beans or Heinz ketchup etc not some make i have never heard of. my dh wont even let me buy tesco own loo roll !! I do however.. just unwrap it all.

Im the same with clothes for my kids and myself & dh. I dont do supermarket clothes. I think it comes down to how dh & I were bought up ?

    staff are polite and helpful

I encountered the rudest shop assistant I have ever come across, at the Lidl's in Transit Way, Plymouth. After he had ignored me, then grunted at me and then pointed at some bags, I did ask him whether he was a graduate of the Lidl charm school, but it was water off a duck's back. That is why I shall never shop in a Lidl's store again - it's not snobbishness.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.
  • No way ahm I too snobbish.. Im a Greenock wean.. so anyone who knows Greenock in Scotland knows theres no snobs here LoL..

However I dnt think its much cheaper!.. I prefer Farmfoods/iceland with a wee pop into tesco..x

It had never occurred to me to be embarrassed about shopping in Lidl or Aldi - I mean, the only way anyone would see you is if they are there too! I'm always delighted to tell people if I've found a bargain. I'm not sure it just comes down to upbringing though, as I had a fairly well off childhood, and never wanted for anything or had to watch my parents struggle for money.

As for supermarket clothes, my son was a total 'George' baby, their clothes are so cheap compared to Mothercare, Adams etc. He had loads of lovely outfits, whereas if I'd only bought brand names, he would have had two sleepsuits and a t-shirt lol.

But each to their own, and if you can afford something, and it makes you happy, then buy it. The only time I have a problem with anyone buying anything is if they are doing it for their own selfish reasons, and it is having a negative impact on their family, ie by getting into debt for the sake of having the right logo on their trainers, or by making their kids go without so they can have the latest LCD TV.

  • I am definately NOT a shop snob,I have always shopped at Lidl and Aldi, the food is much better quality and sometimes much cheaper than the mainstream stores.Lidl started out as a charity and that was the reason I started shopping there (when we lived abroad) my father is connected in a very high way to Lidl,I'm not saying how,but their business practices would put others to shame.
I do find that I spend more at these shops though, they have so many good offers on non food stuff it is hard to resist.:o
