    Hi Nevadagirl

Happy New Year - and thanks for bringing us up to date on the weigh in - impressive stuff. Well done all for their achievements.

Then mizmir joined in, with a self-selected starting point of 21,000, and an overpayment of 323 or thereabouts on his usual payments. Well done! :T

Sadly having had car repairs and emergency vet bills this month my "extras" have been swallowed up trying to keep the debt from going up so this month I have only managed to do my normal payments - £695 making my new total £20,305. Am determined to improve on this in January.

oh - and i am a "she"!

Don't worry - I never know who is what as it were! (though nevadagirl might be a giveaway! :D)
  • Just wondering how everyone's doing? I've signed up to AQA and I'm just waiting for my review so I can find out if I'm 'in' permanently. Today's a really rotten day so I won't be going anywhere, sounds like the perfect opportunity to get on with some turbolisting...

    And look over here

(small things keep my little mind amused  )

    Have a great weekend,

Not doing too well really - have paid some off (only my minimum though) but am about to have to add more to credit - car repairs (both cars - unexpected - about £800), vet fees (oldest dog died :( - £250), tax - probably about £1000. All because I haven't budgeted for these. Will be putting stuff away for these in future but unfortunately my overall debt is set to go up a bit before it goes down. On the plus side I have joined the olympic Challenge and have worked out a plan to try to raise £500 extra every month! We'll see.

Overall effect on this £21K challenge - I won't be able to pay extra off until at least Feb. But I may then be able to catch up and still hit the target by the end of the year. Hope so!
  • Hi mizmir,

I'm sorry to hear about your dog, that's really sad news. You're doing really well on your challenges, though I know what you mean about debt having to come up before it can come down - the grand plan has to change almost constantly. Nothing seems to be happening quickly here, and while I know those extra £3s here and (sometimes) £20s there all add up, it seems to take ages to make a real difference. Especially when unexpected but necessary fees into the hundreds come up.

Like you, I'm trying to stay positive. Even the bad weather outside can't get me down, it means a no-spend day, if nothing else!

  • Hi Mizmir

Really sorry to hear about your dog, I know how attached we get to them. I would like to thank you for your positive attitude it keeps me inspired when I read any of your comments. I think the Flylady attitude is probably the route I need to take as my house is cluttered so if I could get down to tackling the clutter I could help clear some debts as well. I think this had better be my resolution for 2007.

Thanks - I appreciate that. The great thing about this site is that we can encourage each other. Have you seen the DFW flylady thread? Tondella is putting daily steps here and there is discussion about it here. Really good way of slowly building up those DF habits especially if like me you are good at getting going but not at keeping at it!

I meant to try the OS Flylady challenge but it all got too much - one thing at a time I think and my house can stay messy for a while while I get on top of the finances! :D
  • That sure is bad news Mizmir... :(

Good luck to everyone for 2007!!! Oh, and an excellent round up, thanks nevadagirl!
  • Hi everyone,

Just watching spendaholics while I'm turbolisting a few bits and bobs. Not doing brilliantly this month in terms of extra payments so far. To try and make up for this, I have been trying to stick to my storecupboard challenge. I decided to turf everything out of my freezer yesterday and work out what meals I could get from it, then put it back in an orderly fashion, instead of rummaging around after work every day when I'm tired and hungry. I realised I maybe had a bit of a problem with the old shopping habits when I worked out that I can get at least 70 meals    out of what's there! That's before I get onto my cupboards (they're next, don't worry).

What are they doing on Spendaholics? OMG are they making her burn money???? Oh no, it's fake notes. Phew! :p

Anyway, where was I... Yes, so I have enough food for 70 meals  so I'm imposing a ban on myself from the supermarket. I started to panic a bit because I needed to get milk tonight for tomorrow morning if I want to have any breakfast, and I was scared to even pop into the Tesco Metro on the way home in case I bought yet another reduction for the freezer. Luckily, we had too many cartons of milk at work today to get through in the next few days, so I could take one of those home. Not looking forward to running out of catfood, though... :o

I've started keeping a spending diary as well, and I've had about 8 NSDs so far this month/year/whatever, which is amazing for me. I'm managing to harness my competitive streak in a positive way, for once.

Hope everyone else is keeping up the good work, please stop by and let us know how you're doing.
