Well done Michael!
Don't think I'll be doing as well - car now not starting (as well as needing £500 of work for MOT) so will not have a lot spare this month. Will add it up after this week and then really go for it in January.0 -
How's everyone doing?
I'm posting my total early as I'm going away for New Year and I'm not sure how much internet access there'll be. I'm desperate to see how everyone else has done this month, though.
I've managed to stay away from the sales (although I did treat myself to a few bits online from some surprise Christmas money) and I'm quite pleased with myself for that. I did go and do a big shop at the supermarket, though, mainly cat food and long life foodstuffs to help my storecupboard throughout January and hopefully into February. My freezer is full to bursting! Thank goodness there's a microwave at work, I'll be eating a lot of home made soup...
I've made extra payments of £263 this month. I spent £33 of my Christmas money on three CDs and three DVDs from HMV, so the other £17 I'm putting towards the challenge. I also got £47 of expenses back from work which I transferred over to my cc straightaway. And I claimed back £200 from my gas/elec provider. So with my usual minimum payments of 525.86, that comes to £788.86 off the debts. Allowing for interest of about £20 on my cc, that means I'm at 19,401.22 and feeling rather pleased with myself!
I've also just had my first Christmas in about four years where NOTHING has gone on the credit card and I haven't added to my debt. I'm not even overdrawn! It's a great feeling!

Excellent news :T Is it too late to join the challenge?
I've got around £24,500 worth of debt and I would love to clear this in 2 years time. I think the extra motivation / competition would keep me focused and stop me slipping off the wagon so to speak!Nov 2015:- Mortgage Balance £244,671
Aug 2017:- Mortgage Balance £183,8320 -
Well, I've had a hard month of clearing arrears, yet still got stumped with £247.50 of bank charges. Gutted.
However, my total debt has come down from £19557 to £19423.91. Not a huge difference, but its a start.
Signature updated to reflect!
Jan is going to be a struggle to be honest, and progress will be slow short term while I strive to (morally) pay what I owe to my parents as my priority debt, nearly a grand. Paid them £110 in Dec, hoping for double that in Jan. Will keep people updated if anything exciting happens!0 -
Hi all,
Just wanted to say good luck with this one!! Will be watching the progress! I wish my debts were 21000!!! Am going to stick to the smaller challenges (ie moozies week to week) as seem to do better with those bt just wanted to say I was thinking of you all! Big hugs!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
Hello
Can I join in. Finally did a snowball thing and it does look as though 2 years is quite possible. Was thinking of consolidating but would much rather pay it all off. Debt is on 2 credit cards and on low interest but will calculate exact number when next statements come in.
Nothing like a bit of motivation and competition at the start of a brand new year... and a monthly look at it would be great.£2 savers club £28 :j0 -
Well done everyone. I have managed to reduce my balance to £21022.57 so not brilliant progress but at least Christmas is out the way and I feel the need to do some decluttering so hopefully I can manage to ebay some items to bring the total down a bit quicker. I think I need to raise an additional £200 per month to get there by December 2008. Just think after today it will be next year.
Hope everyone else is doing ok I look forward to seeing your results.
Happy New Year:beer:
By the way welcome to the challenge NonStopMum I certainly need as much motivation as possible0 -
Happy new year everyone.
Well I have added up the totals and have managed to pay off 739.00 in December. So that brings my total down to 20261.00.Going to be having a new year clear out today so ebay etc here I come.
Can't wait to hear how everyone else got on.
Good luck for January.

Just wanted to stop by and do a quick round-up of everyone who has signed up to the challenge so far...
First off, we had Michael1983l, who started the thread. In the first month of the challenge, Michael managed to bring down his total from 21,698 to 20,949, a fantastic achievement - way to lead by example, Michael! :j
Then mizmir joined in, with a self-selected starting point of 21,000, and an overpayment of 323 or thereabouts on his usual payments. Well done! :T
I found this thread and thought it suited me right down to the ground, and got stuck in - although I was starting on a bit less than everyone else, I'm patting myself on the back for getting to sub-20k. :j
Along came Broken Hearted, who liked the sound of the idea and who we would like to hear from again to find out how you're getting on - please let us know if you are with us for a new start in 2007.;)
Hobsch and malvena weren't far behind in wanting to get involved, both starting on 21k, and both flinging some extra money at it despite it being December and all that - it's not easy, but you're showing us how it's done - thank you! :T :j
Nuclear_Tom has joined in at 19,557 and weighed in at 19,423 - excellent work for a matter of weeks, no, days! :j
farmerswife started off in the challenge in the mid 21ks and is almost sub-21k already - fast work! :T
And welcome to coxj2901 and NonStopMum - hope you both decide to join in with our challenge, keep us company, share your debt-fighting tips and help keep us all motivated to clear £21k by December 2008  !
Honourable mention to fishface and everyone else who looks in on the challenge from time to time - we appreciate your support. And if there are any more for any more, you're more than welcome. Apologies to anyone in the challenge if my adding up is wrong or I've misunderstood your start points - feel free to jump in and correct meI joined the 21k debt free in 2 years head to head challenge 12 December 06
