Signed it. Actually feel sick as I grew up near there, and still visit the asda there to go shopping, you never think these things will happen near where you are. I would be going absolutely nuts if it was my children.

What purpose is this petition thingy going to serve other than providing an outlet for the parents and their supporters? Who takes online petitions seriously? Perhaps inundating the local press might bring more attention to this issue.

Maybe a couple of youngster being found in a gutter on a dark night with broken legs might garner more attention. And possibly more support, too.

Which person or organisation is being petitioned? There doesn't seem much point in collecting signatures if they're not going anywhere.

Petitions to be effective need to be sent to a person or an organisation. Just saying 'justice system' is meaningless. Addressing it in the body of the petition to the Lord Chief Justice and sending it to them would make more sense.

I know you're only trying to help and yes if it had been my son I would be jumping up and down baying for blood.

The point that people are making is that whilst 20 weeks is a joke for these injuries what did the originator hope to achieve with the petition?

Was it to embarass the judge? Make people aware of those who committed these crimes or to try and get the sentencing increased? (I thought that if a sentence was considered too light could the CPS appeal against it?)

For this - or any petition - to be effective it needs to clearly say what it hopes to achieve and I'm sorry this doesn't.

Please don't regret trying to help. I am sorry if my comments made you feel that way. These subjects are so emotive and everyone just wants to do something to help. Your intentions are completely pure and understandable. Sometimes it takes "an outsider" to give some input that may help the cause. Please though, no regrets. Its horrible what happened to those kids :(

look - the petition is now 'out there' on the internet...........publicity! its now on MSE forums and the more people who know about it the better as it may well get picked up by the media.
I signed it - because if that report is true, and i suspect it is, then if those two had caused the same injuries to a police officer, then they wouldnt have got off so lightly - I suspect it would have been ten years each! and people wonder why I have the signature I do?
