  • When I got my first mobile it was a creaky Motorola (you had to be careful not to squeeze it when you were on a call) with a pull-out antenna. It came bundled with a year's line rental (Orange Boxed and Ready?).

That was in the day before cross network texts (later on I moved to Vodafone and used an international message centre to get free SMS messages, those were the days).

    It looked something like this:

I got my first mobile when I was starting high school 2003. It was a nokia 3310, it was a great wee phone. Have had several phones since then.

    I now have a Blackberry Curve 3G :D

If it wasn't for the mistakes I made in the past (and learned from), I wouldn't be who and where I am today. It doesn't matter if you've cocked up, what matters is that you put it right and apologise. x

Mine was a Nokia 3410 when I was 11 and went to high school, for "safety" because it was two bus journeys away. For some reason, I was the only kid in my friend group who had a Nokia, and was the only one with Snake, so it made me incredibly popular.

    (I can't post a picture because I'm still a newbie sorry!)

I cant remember but it was 1993, and Voda & o2(BT Cellnet) were the choice and Vodafone sold a contract to a 16 year old and it was £17.50 a month for nothing and calls were 80p a minute to standard landlines or mobiles.

Yes, this sounds familiar! In around 1992 I got an NEC Cellstar 500 phone - a large lump of hard, grey plastic with recessed buttons and an incredibly fragile aerial sticking out the top!

I can't remember how much it cost to buy (it wouldn't have been 'free' like today) but it was on BT Cellnet and, as diamonds says, the 'line rental' was £17.50 per month - the equivalent of £27.50 in todays money. There were no inclusive minutes and calls were 50 pence per minute peak and 20 pence per minute off-peak (I can't remember whether calls to mobiles were more expensive).

There was no charge for texting....because it hadn't been invented then!
