Thanks for all the great responses. It would seem like 1997-99 was when mobiles suddenly became a consumer item rather than just a business device. Lots of frequently mentioned phones in there and it brings back lots of memories.

I'm surprised at how many of you still have them stowed away and the fact that some of them still work!

Ive been playing with mine (ooh errr) all morning!! do we all remember things like the Nokia's would only store 10 text messages! bonkers... we all take so many things for granted now!!

One analogy for you here.... in a mans world everything has to be bigger, better, harder faster... such as drills... I have a good one here, but it's only 18V Ni-Cad with one battery... I need a De-Walt 24V Li-Ion with 3 batteries....

Why then do men need smaller and smaller mobiles!

Did it need a second battery installed in the boot?

I remember it being wired into the car, they had to send an engineer and it was the best part of a day to do the installation.

My brother in law still uses a 6210... I love the fact that he can get 4/5 days from a single charge!

  • I had my first mobile aged around 18, so about 1996ish. Think it was a nokia - could pick up a signal anywhere, and one other thing I remember is that the sim card was the size of a credit card! I loved that phone, ended up getting lost on my way home from work one day. Currently use a LG cookie, I only really use a phone for calls/texts so don't need a posh one :)

Mine was a Nokia 3410 when I was 11 and went to high school, for "safety" because it was two bus journeys away. For some reason, I was the only kid in my friend group who had a Nokia, and was the only one with Snake, so it made me incredibly popular.

    (I can't post a picture because I'm still a newbie sorry!)
