It's not moth infested - she's put the pupae there to get a refund. The pupae are from common house flies...

Well then get her to send it back and then refund on delivery (inc P+P) if you don't PayPal will.

It is knitting wool, bar 3kgs. Most of the rest is synthetic therefore unaffected by moths even it there were moths. I would have the item I sold to do with as I please is the long and short of it. This buyer is very rude and manipulative and wants to keep the item and get a refund which suggests to me she will be using it regardless of any statements she's made to date. I have offered a full refund on return of all items sent which she has refused.
So in all your wisdom you believe that I should just let her keep over 20 kgs of wool that's unaffected by moths as it is synthetic, and give her the purchase price and postage back?
If this is the advice I'm disappointed as a seller on eBay, and also realise that I'm obviously too trusting of people. I'll probably never use eBay again in spite of never having had a problem before......

Id expect it to be returned and a refund made if the wool is faulty but the rules might be different

OP , You really won't win the case / dispute. It's the risk of selling on eBay quite frankly! They WILL side with her under the buyer protection scheme, which is far far far superior to any seller protection scheme. You're also very likely to receive a negative rating of course... You can't minus postage charges...You need to refund her original purchase price paid INCLUDING delivery charges.

And as a matter of fact, she's within her rights to demand that YOU arrange pickup of the wool, and she does not need to send it back to you whatsoever...Though, if it goes through eBay dispute, then she would need to send it back to you and eBay may contribute a bit of money to send it back to you.

If it's infested with moths, etc... And not good wool, what do you want with it anyway? Why not offer her a partial refund or try and negotiate something and let her keep the stuff?

OP - have you posted on the ebay board?

I'm fairly sure that if the buyer opens a dispute, she will need to return the whole lot so that you can refund. Obviously, she can't just send an empty envelope - the postage weight would be a giveaway.

just as clarification - i have offered her a refund of everything she has paid me (postage and purchase price) when she returns the item to me. She has 'discarded' the part of the item she claims is not as described so there is no way to proof otherwise.

by discarding part of the item she is unable to return everything to me!

Wait, she's discarded part of the item?
Don't refund anything to her then, !...You have the e-mail trail...Once you get the goods back yourself, inspect it, and if there's nothing wrong, take pictures etc... Let her take it through eBay dispute and dispute that she shouldn't have thrown anything away and that you contest her photos of moth infestation

Seems like she's trying it on TBH

yes, she needs to return it if she wants her money back. Surprised she would argue anything else.

What exactly does she want - will she not accept a partial refund and keep it - i.e. £20 or something?

also - further clarification - it is good wool, lots of really good synthetic 4 ply knitting wool with nothing absolutely nothing wrong with it.
and yes, it has been discarded, to some worm farm/composter or something similar. I checked all the wool before it left me and i saw nothing whatsoever wrong with it - also the few pictures I have received show about 10 broken ends of which i remember causing at lerast 6 of them trying to roll a slight knotted shank of wool into a ball!
I don't want to just refund her the money and let her keep it as i know that there is £100's worth of really good synthetic yarn. plus i do not have £90+ to just give to someone. I paid nearly £200 for the lot originally so i cannot afford to just let it go for nothing, plus be out the postage costs :(
My understanding is that she wants a full refund and to keep the item....

As Sabz stated earlier, make sure that if a dispute is opened, you provide details of the e-mail in which your buyer stated that they have already disposed of some of the wool.
When you were told of this, was the message sent through the ebay message system?
