Where on the site does it say they are a UK registered company?

The footer clearly says the site is operated by "Operated by Ancestry.com Europe S.à r.l." and the domain is registered to Ancestry.com Operations Inc. in the US.

That's strange, when I look on the About Us page I don't see details of the company.

Well i signed up for the free offer and when i couldn't get any information about my grandparents I rang and was persuaded to sign up for a higher deal, over £60 lighter and still no info. so I cancelled, when I tried to get my money back they just said tough!
    Lesson learnt!!!

    Maybe people should share subscriptions..?;)
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
  • I registered with this company for the 14 day free trial. My fault, I went over the 7 day limit to cancel this 'free trial period' and was charged £107. I was upset but fully responsible for this. However I have just noted that I have been debited the same amount from my account again over a year after cancelling this! Watch this space but I will be reporting this to my bank and the company.

Any advice on which Ombudsman I could report this is as surely they shouldn't retain my bank details after I've cancelled?

    Many thanks

I googled the company number and got
    Ancestry.com UK (Commerce) Limited
    3rd Floor
    Waterfront Building
    Hammersmith Embankment
    Chancellors Road
    London, W6 9RU

Registered in England with Company Number 6576240
Ancestry.com UK (Commerce) Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ancestry.com Operations, Inc., a US company incorporated in Delaware, USA, its principal office is 360 W 4800 N Provo, UT 84604, USA.

This from a website called ancestryshop.co.uk so I would guess it is just this 'Commerce' part which is UK registered.
  • I also signed up for the free trial, fully intending to continue with a monthly subscription at about a tenner a month.
To my surprise yesterday £107.40 has come out of my account. I was straight on the phone to them and they agreed to refund the money. The trouble is that their refund will take 7-10 days! Not much good if you have DD's waiting to come out!
I suspect that their sign-up process is deliberately misleading - not uncommon.
With them being a trusted brand I just assumed that I wouldn't be hoodwinked!
