Ebay highest bidder comes from abroad

Anyone know how to deal with this?

We have just sold some clothing to someone on Ebay. Although I put UK Only in the buying part, I have just been on paypal and the person who was highest bidder comes from Holland?!

The item isn't much, just over £10 but I have only put £1.80 for postage costs and I didn't want it to be sold to someone abroad. How have they done this?

Also can I use the second chance offer option or will I receive bad feedback?

I don't see why I have to post to the buyer in Holland. Any advice welcomes. Thanks

You need to block overseas bidders, go to account/site preferences/postage preferences/exclude postage locations, you then choose the countries you won't ship to.
You could ask the buyer to accept a mutual cancellation but they may refuse & then you have to pay FVF's.
Have you looked on RM to see how much it would cost to post to Holland?

I can't see why someone wouldn't post to Holland. For letters and things you can fit in an envelope it costs as little as 60p. I've just sent a laptop to Paris (cost £14) and one is on its way to Austria (cost £27.50). I've just sold another to a guy in Slovakia. Hell, I can ship a laptop to Australia on a 2-3 day airfreight service for £50. To me, it is no different than to sending to someone in the UK except it takes 2-3 days for them to get it instead of next day and if its outside the EU I have to complete a Pro Forma invoice to stick to the box.

Ok I will post it, it's not a major problem but it isn't going to be worth insuring for what it costs. Hammyman fair enough but you no doubt got the majority/more of the postage costs back. I have only received £1.80 and I bet the cheapest slowest option is still at least double that.

Just a bit annoyed, this hasn't happened before and I put UK Only *it says that on the posting options) why doesn't this block overseas buyers from bidding in itself? Not as if it's unclear

If they've paid you could message them & say that they have paid UK postage & let them know how much it will be to send overseas.
You don't need to insure it. I think that insurance is only payable within the UK.

Have asked the buyer about cancelling as I clearly stated UK only but have not heard back yet (probably can't read English!).

What will happen if I do a 'Second chance offer', can the foreign buyer give bad feedback etc?

I have sold 91 items and have always had good feedback, charging low p&p (usually not asking enough) and have always sent out within a day or two of payment. I don't want bad feedback now...

If you do a 2nd chance offer then you have 2 buyers for the same item, so yes you could get bad FB & stars & a Non performing seller strike, if the 1st buyer pays.
If they haven't paid yet, then you could send an invoice showing the revised postage costs.

Just a thought. If I deal with a buyer from another country I normally type my message and then go to google translation to translate into their language and when reply received translate back into English.

The majority of Dutch people understand English perfectly. I've lived there and they put us to shame.
Instead of bleating about the possible postage costs and having bets with yourself, why not check how much it costs to post? Takes about a minute.
There is a post every week on the same subject of a foreign buyer winning an auction.

Just tell the buyer politely that this was a UK auction, so can they please provide a UK postage address. Tell them that if they need the item posting to Holland, the price for a courier will be £X, so they will need to either pay the extra, or provide a UK shipping address.

They will understand English. The Dutch pretty much all speak English. It's just us lazy English that are cr*p with languages.

You cannot second chance it until your first buyer issue has been sorted. You can't just state "UK ONLY" on the auction. You needed to correct block international bidders.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Just love it how certain posters will always try and make an idiot of someone on more or less every thread on here!

Look, I put UK ONLY, it clearly says that on the item page. Why do Ebay allow people from abroad to even bid on things which state that? It can't be hard to put that on the system.

The buyer, from Holland, won and paid for the item within seconds, meaning I can't change the postage costs. There is no way I am posting the item to Holland for the same money I put down as p&p in England, which for 1st class is generous as it is.

Think I will take my chances and just give a second chance offer as the fella hasn't replied since Thursday.

f he leaves negative feedback so be it, but surely Ebay will over ride that considering what has gone on here
