Do you think it'd help to try filing an 'unauthorised transaction' claim in paypal or has it been too long?
it may be worth talking to your bank to see if you can file for a chargeback in this instance ..would depend if it was funded from a credit card or visa debit card... they would take money off paypal who in turn would chase the seller, but you need to tell them the truth as to why you are trying to claim
Sorry cross posted !0 -

I spoke to the card issuer that I got my prepaid card from and they keep saying it needs to come from my bank. I completely fail to see how that works if they are the ones that sent the payment.
Not getting any joy with anyone

Without meaning to sound like an idiot in all honesty, I don't really care about the police investigation side of it. a) if they didn't want me to contact the seller, they should've said so and b) once the seller has been arrested and sent down, what chance do I have of getting a refund then? Not much, so my only option is to go after the seller before the police get to them.
You might not care, but tipping off is an offence. At the very least you have probably prejudiced the criminal investigation.0 -
I'm pretty sure that the 'tipping off' you are talking about is very different to me saying to the seller that it has been reported to the police.sarahg1969 wrote: »You might not care, but tipping off is an offence. At the very least you have probably prejudiced the criminal investigation.
The tipping off you're talking about is if I was say the seller and I told my ex that it had been reported, then the seller would be committing an offence.0 -

Both are possible examples of tipping off.0 -
I have got her phone number, yes, and a mobile number. I just don't want to phone and make a scene because the way I'm feeling, I'm not sure how calm I would be able to remain. As far as I know, if you haven't got the funds in PayPal, they won't let you refund anything (unless ebay take the money that is).
Ring her start calmly and tell her you want a refund or you will be taking it to small claims court - you can provide her with a crime reference number and the investigating officers details
Has she replied to your last email0 -

I'd not recommend any further contact with the seller, personally. A police investigation is underway, and tipping off the seller will compromise that investigation.0 -

Whilst i understand what you are saying, that will not get the OP a refund.. all the police will want to do is discover who stole the PC and prosecute if necessary. They will not assist the OP in getting her money back0 -
Sorry to hear things went pear shaped for you on ebay, must be stressful. Hope it comes to a positive conclusion.0

Well OP as your prepared to attempt a chargeback via your virtual debit card why not simply "lose" your laptop before the police come round to take it off you. Whence it will sit in an evidence room for 2 years waiting for a possible court case. Then most likely end up in some auction house where one of us will buy it cheaply and sell it on for profit on ebay.
BTW A word to the wise don't be tempted to file an insurance claim for your "lost" laptop, I mean really don't be tempted.0
