Mum has been taken in to hospital today, so to be honest anything else is going to go over my head at the moment. Thanks everyone for your thoughts.

Oh dear, sorry to hear your Mum's not well - hope you're not worrying too much and that your Mum soon starts feeling better.

However, I think your earlier post reveals something rather disturbing:

Thanks everyone. I spoke to her, remained calm, and she says she did phone, but didn't use my name.
Her husband has now sent a stonking email to both the customer services, and the American head office of the company. He was furious with me for going round.

He was furious with you? (I presume he didn't actually send off these defensive emails in front of you - just told you he'd done it?)
..Sorry to say this but his reaction stinks of guilt!

Please at least have a look at your history on Experian or one of the other credit reference sites (they ask for card details when you join, but you've got a month to look at your report and cancel the payment if a freebie would make it easier for you ;) ). I would also have a word with your Community Police Officer. Get it logged, including the husband's reaction, in case it turns out that you've got a bigger problem with these neighbours than first appears.
