Neighbour using my name!

Options
Sorry - this is nothing to do with moneysaving, but I need some advice, and I know people on this board are helpful.
I have received a free cleansing milk, with a cover letter with my name on, but next doors address, saying thanks for your call, and apologising that I didn't like the product. I phoned the company to say that I have never even used their product, let alone complained. They were very helpful, and even remembered the phone call, as the person had a very distinctive voice and accent! She also used my full first name, which I never do. I am sure, after talking to them, that it is my neighbour (whose address was on the envelope).
Now I know this seems petty, but I am left with a very uneasy feeling, and wondering what else she has used my name for. She hardly speaks to anyone in the street, and is not really approachable.
Any thoughts on this? Am I being paranoid or am I right to feel unsettled? If so, what should I do?
Thanks.

I don't think you are being paranoid at all and I too would want to know why my neighbour is using my name.

It winds me up enough that my neighbours order taxis and that sort of thing, using my address.

Not really sure how you would go about it though?!

Go around and tell her that you are getting the police involved, and if she has used your information to get credit etc etc you will have her up in court, tell her you have proof, you've already spoken to one company and they said it was her.... put the frightners on.

why is she not approachable, if someone was using my details i'd be there at her door asking what her game was.

Is it worth speaking to your local community police officer and ask how to find out if your identity has been stolen?

  • What a cheeky mare. If she is not approachable, how about making a photocopy of the letter and writing covering note letting her know you want an explanation as you have phoned the company and know she has used your identity which is a crime. Or just phone the police and let them do it. Like you have said, you don't know what else she has used your name for. You have to tackle this one way or another.

Thanks everyone. When I say she is not approachable I mean she just seems to put up a barrier even if you try to say hello, putting her head down and walking the other side of the road if she sees you approaching. There has never been any trouble.
She knows my name, as she has been my neighbour for a number of years now.
I just don't know whether to go round with the cleansing milk and say that I had spoken to the company, and they described her voice, and as it was her address, I presume she had made the call.

    Hi

For safety sake, do a full credit check with all three credit reference agencies.

She may be hard up and just trying to get extra freebies by using your name or she may be ordering other stuff.

I don't think I would go round and give her the cleansing milk she got using your name - i'd just go round with the letter. Why should she still get the 'reward'

I can see your point there, but then again, that stops op getting freebies if she does that, it's usually one per household. And i think its a bit of a cheek, i'd be asking my neighbour if it was alright to do so if it was just for freebies
