Neighbour using my name!

Thanks, but I think you said you had a re-direction in place, so didn't you receive any letters from Next or the telecoms company? Also, thanks for the tip, I will check my credit file at the weekend.
Yes they all started arriving in the same week, phone bill from Orange, which I thought just a mistake until the watch freebie from a catalogue arrived - started looking into that, then the Next bill arrived just days later! And so it went....... Have to say that the fraud depts of the companies were great. And in the end the person did a runner, apparently with 4 huge tvs and multitudes of stuff.....Light Bulb Moment - 11th Nov 2004 - Debt Free Day - 25th Mar 2011 :j0 -
Sorry - this is nothing to do with moneysaving, but I need some advice, and I know people on this board are helpful.
I have received a free cleansing milk, with a cover letter with my name on, but next doors address, saying thanks for your call, and apologising that I didn't like the product. I phoned the company to say that I have never even used their product, let alone complained. They were very helpful, and even remembered the phone call, as the person had a very distinctive voice and accent! She also used my full first name, which I never do. I am sure, after talking to them, that it is my neighbour (whose address was on the envelope).
Now I know this seems petty, but I am left with a very uneasy feeling, and wondering what else she has used my name for. She hardly speaks to anyone in the street, and is not really approachable.
Any thoughts on this? Am I being paranoid or am I right to feel unsettled? If so, what should I do?
Thanks.
Firstly, you have absolutely no idea if it was your neighbour or somebody else.
Secondly, why would your neighbour use your name to complain about a product she used???
Something odd there...
How do you know it's not somebody you know playing a prank on you but got your house number wrong?
I think you need to think about this thoroughly as you may end up threatening your neighbour with the police or making her feel uncomfortable in her own home when it could well be somebody else
Edited to add :- Why would this be delivered to you when the address is for your neighbour? It must've been put through the door as Royal Mail have to deliver to the address not the name. So,has it crossed your mind that it is someone else,it was delivered to your neighbour and she put it through your door when she saw the name on it?

The postie has been delivering round here for a number of years, and probably just read the name.
Thanks everyone. I spoke to her, remained calm, and she says she did phone, but didn't use my name.
Her husband has now sent a stonking email to both the customer services, and the American head office of the company. He was furious with me for going round.Always look on the bright side of life ....la la la la la la la la0 -

Did she not leave a name and the company looked on a database and scanned up a line by mistake?0

I dont understand why your OH is furious at YOU? you rang the firm concerned and they said that they remember the call as the voice was distinctive and gave YOUR name and address. Strange. I would have thought he would be furious at the neighbour!0

Really? Because despite me ringing to ask for my address to be updated numerous times one company still send letters to my name but addressed to number 10 in our street, I live at the other end of the road and my postman always delivers the letters to me.:j0 -

It might be a one off - but I agree I think its dubious too. Well done for going round. Perhaps her OH's fury is to cover up (or misdirected at you because he is furious at her!)0

Yes this happened to me, too.
Months afterwards - after I thought it was all sorted out, and had moved house - debt collectors from one of her catalogues turned up on my doorstep.
Find out how far it's gone now, and stop it.
Oh, and this is certainly a money-saving query for you!
Same here,in my case it was my ex who was buying stuff from catalogs in my name, only found out when debt collectors started turning up on my doorstep!
Cost me a lot of time & money to sort out & wrecked my credit rating.0
