I put in a claim for mis-sold PPI with my Halifax credit card before Christmas. Had a few letters from them saying they were taking my complaint seriously etc, would be investigating it soon, and now I have heard nothing since February. I have written to them again some weeks ago asking what was going on, but no response.
    What should I do now?

Hi, can I ask was that a Halifax one card? I am about to put complaint in relating to ours. Reason is that my husband has full sick pay etc. We got copy of application but it's like a summary with my husbands signature on it. It says on it he asked for ppi. We have never asked for ppi but can't remember if it was an online, phone call or postal application. We can remember being told that applications more likely to get approved with ppi but cant remember if it was this card or one of our other loans etc.

I took a loan out from LloydsTSB last May. I was advised that I could only receive the loan if I took out PPI following their 'risk assessment'. I accepted and proceeded with the loan.

Several months later I visited my very helpful LloydsTSB branch to conduct a review on my account and we looked at how I could reduce my outgoings. They noticed the PPI, and suggested that I didn't actually need it, so they the direct debit for it there and then! Wonderful.

But now I am wondering if I ever needed to pay the first several months PPI at all, and if not, can I reclaim?

  • I used to work in a Halifax branch and we sold PPI properly. We explained the product in detail, we explained the cost and only sold it when there was a need. Why should customers who were sold the product correctly now be able to claim compensation ?

PPI as has been said isn't a bad thing, however, many many banks and workers in banks were too busy meeting sales targets to get their bonuses, and to get those bonuses some staff(a lot of them) used underhand tactics to get people to take ppi on their loans, using techniques which most back lane lenders would be proud of.
When people are self employed and the bank knows this then they shouldn't sell that product, when people are disabled and can't claim they shouldn't have been sold ppi, when people have underlying health conditions and would be exempt from claiming they shouldn't have been sold ppi, when people weren't even told they may not be able to claim on the policy they shouldn't have been sold ppi.
Why shouldn't they receive their money back they have been mis-sold a product by the bank, not neccesarily you, but by other bank workers and a lot of them worked for the same company as you, these people have the right to the compensation if they were mis-sold and i'm pretty sure over the years at the branch where you worked there will have been some people who were mis-sold, or else the branch probably wouldn't have made it's targets.
Thanks to all the competition posters.

I have a loan with you with ppi, which i beleive was mis-sold, however as i ran into money problems i am dealing with CCCS, since then you have sold my account on, who do i need to complain to regarding PPI?

A common theme with everyone is 'why so long to get our money back?'

I am lucky enough to have confirmation that I will be re-paid PPI from 2003. I've signed and returned the acceptance. My question now is:

'Why on earth does it take 8 weeks for someone to calculate what i'm due back?'

Seems like this should be the simplest part of it all - maybe not for us, but for the whizz kids at the bank it should be easy.

    Speed it up!!

The complant would still be with whoever sold the PPI (assuming LLoyds in this case).
  • I took out a loan in 2004 for seven years. I was unaware that I had PPI. In 2008 I became ill and was off sick. After six months, I received for the first time a report from Lloyds to say how my loan was being paid off. I filed it. Two weeks later I received a letter saying that they had made an error and that I had a PPI in place as well. I contacted them and was able to make a claim, even though I did not know that I had it. The claim remained in place to the end of the loan which was over two years away.

The point is that I did not know that I had one. Obviously I would have claimed immediately if I had! Does this mean that I cannot claim for the PPI premium which I discovered was £2000 and if I can claim, will they then want the money they paid which I claimed under this policy which totals around £2,700?
  • I used to have a lloyds platinum credit card which was automatically superseded by the airmiles duo cards. I have successfully claimed my PPI back from the airmiles duo but Lloyds refuse to acknowledge that my platinum account ever existed saying they have no record of it. Could you ask the man from lloyds what they will be doing to remedy this. By the way I still have the actual credit card for the account which lloyds say never existed. I would have assumed that financial companies would be required to keep records for a certain period of time?
