Sorry Dave - you've lost me! I'm having a zoo venue but not sure how that makes any of what she said correct?

It's the whole zoo thing. That makes you a teenage chav bride who's going to have curled-up sandwiches at the reception ;)

Thanks Ange, sadly my budget doesn't run to the evening VIP safari thing, we're just having the daytime there. It was a compromise as the zoo means a lot to us, but worth it for me just to have at least part of ourspecial day in our special place

Ellay, I'm sure your day will be perfect, you've chosen shomething that means something to you & your hubby to be & you've avoided what most people do & stick with tradition to keep their friends/family happy. Its your wedding day & it IMO should reflect you as a couple.
My hubby to be & I arent into sit downs meals & formality, were very social people & so have decided to spend most of our budget on different forms of entertainment. Were getting married in our local church, having drinks in our local pub with local shanty men entertaining guests, then we are having our reception in the grounds of a village manor house, where there will be 4 different types of "entertainment" a childrens entertainer & bouncy castle, a string quartet, an irish band & a disco. That way everybody's free to have a good time. Were not having a free bar, nor are we having a 3 course meal, just a nice hog roast & BBQ. Weve saved loads by not having a sit down meal, we've friends in the village that are doing things rather than buying us gifts (our village cafe is making our cake, the pub has offered to let us buy champagne at cost, & my friend is going to be our horse & cart for the day) its not about spending lots of money weve only spent £7k, its about you enjoying your special day & it being a day you treasure for the rest of your life.
I hope you have a fantastic day honey & I would be honoured to be a guest at your wedding.

I don't really want to take this thread off on a tangent, but I kinda agree with Idio about the 'inverse snobbery' on here at times. (It isn't on every thread, and it isn't exhibited by everyone). Sometimes 'we' run the risk of assuming spending money on weddings equals wasting money. In the same way that the OPs new friend (lol) assumed that not spending money on weddings equals tacky weddings. I think MSE should be (and on the whole is) about encouraging everyone to spend their money wisely regardless of how much they can afford and what they want to spend it on. For example why pay a fortune for a 6x3m marquee when I could get two 3x3m gazebos which will do the job for £34 (£17 each) from tescos! But at the same time I want to buy a stunning dress that may cost me upto £1k. (I have yet to try on the one I have my eye on.) We all have different priorities (I don't want a photographer) and it's important we remember that :)

    I totally agree with MrsDrink!

It isn't about how much you spend, I think it is about getting as much for your money as possible. We have a rather large budget comparing to some on here, but we still want value! We know what we want, then look at cheaper ways to get it. And remember a budget is not a target! :money:

Can I just say that you are going to look totally amazing on your wedding day. You are having a pure silk gown, bespoke headpiece, have awesome jewellery and are actually being 'dressed' on your wedding day. Personally I can't wait. Zoo- amazing. :D

I admire your guts to stand up to her!! Id have probably ran out crying.

What a shame that she will never know what its like to have a MSE wedding, the joy of bargain and knowing you'll have no debts from your big day, and the fact you love your future with your partner more than keeping up with the Joneses.

I know the kind of people id rather get my ideas off, certainly not her.

    Chavvy indeed.

    Well done x
