Does any one no if you have to keep the humax connected to the phone line for the epg updates? Really interested in getting one.:DTotal Debt - £0.00

Look after then pennies and the pounds will look after themselves!0 -
PVRs like the Humax do not need or have a phone line, the epg updates are received via the aerial around 3 in the morning.
I think you are confusing this Freeview device with a SKY+ box.

Was on the xmas sales hunt today and seen one in Currys , man it looked a sweet machine . Anyhow meantioned it was £171 in Dixons and without problem the saleslady dropped to £170 . No delivery charge as i was picking up , i thought hey what the heck lets go for it .
Got it home and woh this is a box tricks , fantasic piece of kit . No messing about with timers all you do is select the programme from the epg . Amazing piece of kit , well pleased . When i say well pleased that is until someone comes on and posts a better deal ...Still i held out tried my best and still beat the best online price , top jobby highly recommend this unit .
cheers for all the replys .still worth asking!
Make sure you update to the latest firmware, amongst other things it gives you 50 timers instead of 20.0 -

I think (but am not 100%) that you get the module and card when you sign up for topuptv with your £30 subscription. Maybe someone has allready done this?0 -
One of my friends has one of these Humax boxes and loves it.
I was going to get one and called up NTL yesterday to cancel my TV account (wanted to keep phone and internet though) but found out they do free basic digital so may as well stick with it.
My video doesn't work any more and instead of buying a new one I was going to use the Humax box but now I guess none of the menu stuff would work through NTL.
Does anyone know if this is the case? If it is, is there a cheapy hard drive system out there I can plug my NTL box into?
Cheers

The humax provides you with a bunch of stuff NTL won't.
If you like the features offered, I'd suggest you ignore the free NTL offer and just buy the humax.0 -
hmm, I am sorely tempted, but it seems rather steep...
Also, I am not sure if my current aerial on the roof is up to freeview, is there a simple test you can do? or is it a case of buying the box and if it don't work get a new aerial (eep)Sometimes you get what you deserve... :cool2:0 -

I have had mine for about 1 year and love it!
Don't know if it's been mentioned here but you can transfer recorded TV films to your PC / laptop and play them using VLC software (free).
Great bit of kit, well worth £1700
