Anyone removed their bath and only put a shower in?

Options
Me and the missus really only have showers and been in our home for over 2 years now. And in that time i havent had a bath and the OH i could count on one hand. And even then she has a shower after as hates stewing in her own muck (as she calls it).

Now our bathroom is an odd shape a L kind of shape. So we were thinking of removing the bath and having a double shower put in place. Now there might be room to get a bath in there, but there might not.

So has anyone done this? We have no kids yet and no planning on moving at all.

Any advice be great :j

I hate hate hate baths, have had perhaps 6 in the last 20 years!

I had the bath ripped out 2 years ago and its great!
Its a small room and so the bath never fitted properly, now I have a corner shower cubicle, the sink has space around it and the toilet isn't squeezed into a corner so you could never sit on it correctly.Theres no washing all the muck away from having a bath.
I don't plan to move for a long time either, the kids are fine. My parents haven't a bath and they are happy with the power shower too.

If you do intend to have children you bath the littlies in the sink! till they can stand! Mine write messages on the cubicle walls that can be seen when it gets steamy again!

Even if we do have kids cannot see it being for 3/4 years anyway.

I like showers but I like baths as well. When looking for a new property, I check carefully to see that there is a bath. I don't bother to view if there is only a shower. Obviously everybody is different, but you might want to check the impact on the resale value before you go ahead.:)

Over the years whilst I was a fitter I did a few of this type of fit, it does give you a great shower and makes the room feel spacious.

The only downside I ever saw wasn't a reduction in value of the property, but you're limiting your market of buyers in the future.

A family with young children will want a bath.

A friend of mine did years ago. Now he is looking to move he has been advised by several EA's to reinstate the bath as people expect it in a "family" home.

Wouldnt bother me but i guess it does some people and when you come to sell you need to remove as many negative points as possible. He is currently looking around trying to find a slightly smaller than normal bath to fit in the space of 1 shower and under a sloping roof profile.

If you're not planning to move, then do it. If you are, it will affect the value, and narrow the potential market for your property. You would be better off trying to work out a layout that would let you have a bath with shower and a separate shower.

I wouldn't consider buying a house without a bath in it!

Please please please don't take your bath out.
There are so many people who won't buy a house without a bath. We have both and i love having a bath and then showering down afterwards.
My DH and 2 teenage daughters love having showeres unless they have got a cold or aches and pains and then they like a long hot soak in the bath.
When my 2 DD's were small they used to love sitting and playing in a bath. Just my opinion but if you have the choice keep both.

When you've got the flu, have tweaked your back or are halfway through a good book only a bath will do IMO, I would not view a house without a bath even though I shower most of the time.
