I wouldn't consider buying a house without a bath in it!
  • We took our Bath out of our small bathroom to make way for a really great shower...I would do the same again..so no regrets whatsoever. Our place is a bungerlow with just 2 bedrooms so not really what you call a family size accomodation although the garden is huge. Not worried about selling restrictions because of no bath as this property would likely sell more on location and space here I believe. Mrs Happy

I dont have a family, just me and I still want a bath in any house I buy! I like the option too, as many have said here. I have just moved and when looking at prospective houses, I didnt view one for the sole reason it had no bath.
  • Do what you want, its not much work to put a bath back in if you ever decide to sell in the future.
  • and make sure you buy the next size up shower tray to the one the wife likes, you will see why in the first week or so!!!

My parents were undecided about whether or not to replace their bath with a shower so they spoke to a couple of local estate agents - the estate agents told them that removing the bath wouldn't make any difference to either the saleability or value of their home.

unless they live in a 1/2 bed place with no family house potential the two estate agents were giving a simple answer because they weren't getting paid. It may not make much difference to house price but saleability will definitely come into it, as will a reduction in price to restore a bath to teh property for a high percentage of buyers

do what works for you. and as commented on if circumstances change or you want to move, install the shower with a view to retrofitting a bath and you will have few probs. at last count we had access to over 600 different shapes and sizes of bath and dozens and dozens of shower tray sizes so if you want to do both there are many creative options out there. the british public seems slightly fixated at times with property as an asset with value added or lost. Its a home, your home and do what works for you

If a viewed 2 identical places, except that one had a bath with a shower above and one only had a shower then the bath one would appeal to me the most, cos that is my preference and because of the kids, and mine got to around 3-ish before they liked having a shower. I wouldn't have fancied bathing them in the basin all that time.

I think though in your circs I might put a shower in, with a view to changing it if/when you have kids as long as you don't mind the extra expense and mess of possibly having to revert it.
  • we're looking to do up our TINY bathroom, but we want to keep a bath so will be going for this:
