Ryanair baggage gestapo @ Lanzarote Airport

Just a warning really as returned from Lanzarote yesterday and the Ryanair baggage gestapo were pretty butal.
They seemed to pick on the trolley bags, they would take the case and basically the staff would make a feeble attempt to put it in the cage and if it never just slid in the cage on its own accord you were hammered with the £40 hold fee, you were not allowed to try pushing the bag in the cage yourself and you were not allowed to take anything out of the bag. It was a point blank £40 fee or you're not boarding.
I know for certain that at least 2 who were collared had bags that wouldve fitted in the cage with just a gentle shove, I fly with Ryanair often these days and have never had a bad word to say about them before but they were pretty harsh yesterday.

You know the rules (you see them at least 10 times before you get to the gate) what with all their e-mails, on your boarding cards in the airport etc etc, if people won't listen who's fault is that.

[FONT="]Sorry but Ryanair has to do something. The last 3 Ryanair flights I've been on have all been delayed because it takes ages to get everyone seated because there was not enough space for everyone's hand luggage. It didn't help that morons were putting cases SIDEWAYS in the lockers and ladies handbags/hats/jackets which could have easily gone on people's laps or under the seat in front. I wish they were charged £40/eur for their selfishness and ignorance. Also some people's cases were huge and ridiculously heavy, if they fell on someone's head they would probably be knocked out. This was on a flight to Malta, where it was 25°C, how much do people need to take to have a case which was close to bursting?

I had the same problem on the Malta route - think there are a lot of expats use it to bring stuff to/ from home.Gone ... or have I?0 -
This happens from time to time at all ryanair departure gates, and many other airlines also,so just dont pick on ryanair.
With ryanair you ONLY get what you pay for. Once you have jumped through all the hoops and braved the pittfalls of the booking process, ditched the electron and flexed your prepaid mastercard and worn your multi-pocketed fishing waistcoat that weighs more than your hand luggage.....yes....i am that person....ryanair are by far the cheapest airline as far as i am concerned, and i fly ryanair 35/40 times a year, but ryanair does NOT have loyal passengers,we only fly ryanair because they are at this time the cheapest most relyable carrier.........but of course 1 in a thousand may have a different story to tell.........or repeat from a story they heard from a man down the pub..........flying tonight.......do you want salt and vinegar with that.......Political?....I dont do Political....well,not much!0 -

This is not just a problem on Ryanair I had the same thing with Jet2.
They just could not fit the bags in the lockers so they had to tag about 10 bags open the cabin door get the steps back open the hold etc etc.
Took about 20 minutes what a farce !!!
Next time I flew with Jet2 the cabin staff were waliking down the check in queue asking people if they would put their bags in the hold ( for free of course !! ).
I also agree that some of the cabin bags are getting dangerously heavy....you get 10 kilos dropping on your head could break you neck.0 -
The baggage gestapo were a bit keen at Stansted last week. Back in the main terminal, the Whisky shop was warning any prospective customer with even the remotest intention of buying anything that unless there was room/weight spare in their bag they'd be better off not buying at all for the £40 extra it might cost them when they reached the Ryanair satellite. "They're on commission" we were told.
It looked to me that they were just gambling - no-one was immune - little old ladies who couldn't shove their bags in the frame, old men with limps ... complete families with child backpacks being weighed too.
The three that were employed on the desk looked proper bruisers. All of them overweight. I was queueing at gate 40 right next to them and we were all watching. It was ugly and so were the Swissport employees carrying out O'Leary's dirty work ...0 -

They are not rules, Bob. Airlines don't make the rules. They have terms and conditions of business and this particular airline is notorious for making a veritable moving feast out of them.
I wasn't complaining at what I saw for myself. I was complaining for the poor unfortunates, the less well informed, the old lady who could barely raise a bag to the frame that you or I could lift with our little finger, the limping old man, the ordinary traveller who may not have flown even one hundredth of the flights on Ryanair that you and I have Bob.
That's why I said it was ugly - and it was

What about Easyjet then, they only have a size limit. The only weight limit is that you can lift it into the overhead locker. Image some bodybuilder who takes his dumbells in his hand luggage :eek:I also agree that some of the cabin bags are getting dangerously heavy....you get 10 kilos dropping on your head could break you neck.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

I books some Ryanair flights at 10pm last night and I've already been
told 3 TIMES in writing what the rules, T&C (call them what you
like) are. They'll be printed clearly on my boarding cards on the various
other emails from Ryanair and dotted around the airport. There is simply
no excuse for not knowing, so if you don't play ball it's your fault.
I didn't realise that little old ladies or limping men were less able to
read or were more stupid than the rest of us.
In my experience 90+% of the times it is females under 40 years old
who fall foul of this, I make no comment it's just an observation.0
