  • In my opinion, even those who ordered 'just' 2 bottles were greedy. Trying to take advantage of a glitch in the website when you know full well that it is not a promotional offer is akin to stealing the items just because you can. You wouldn't feel justified in walking out of a shop with 2 bottles of bubble bath ...

If the store put a price tag on the item or shelf saying 'take me now we won't charge you' we would all be justified in taking the item and not expecting to be charged. That's all that's happened here.

You are out of order sugesting moneysavers are theifs. They would get allot of good publicity if they fullfilled the (reasonable) orders In the same way any company gets publicity for giving things away free. Lots of people actually ordered things with their free bubblebath proving the point.

Avon are a huge chain who make millions, not a charity or small private company, they made us and offer and we took it - this is not theft.
Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.
Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.

The fact that apparently many people are doing it, and that indeed there is an entire thread devoted to it, does not necessarily make it right.

    littlejaffa:
If a store put a tag saying "free" on an item, clearly that would be deliberate. This, by contrast, is clearly not an "offer" as you claim, but a mistake. The example I gave, of taking an item when staff aren't paying attention, provides a much better parallel. Someone on this thread posted a message to the effect of: "If only everyone had just contented themselves with taking just 2 bottles, then Avon might never even have noticed". If Avon benefited from this error, then what's wrong with them being made aware of it?
And the fact that a company makes millions in profit does not make it alright to take items without paying for them, unless they are specifically offered as free. The offer here clearly stated "buy one, get one free".
I believe that in the case of those customers who ordered 2 bottles in good faith, expecting to pay for one of them, Avon should perhaps have honoured the transaction. But now it has been posted on a forum and people are deliberately abusing the website glitch in order to get something for nothing, I can understand why Avond are cancelling orders and I cannot for the life of me understand some people's indignation about this.

That is the only point I am making.

    Wouldn't that be funny...

I can imagine my interview now.

"They didn't send me my two bottles of bubble bath in pearly peach and passion fruit! " Lol

  • Could someone pm me how to get do the security flaw?

Don't want to spy, just want to see how easy it is to get my details up - will only do it with mine.

Alternatively, if someone wants to PM me a snapshot of a screen with my order details, I'll PM them the order code (I take it you'd need it?), and then they could show me what they could 'see'.

I'm just getting a lil' paranoid now...

    Cheers,

    Mike
